Tom Wilson, Dashawn McDowell Sign With Mustangs

DALLAS (SMU) --- Tom Wilson and Dashawn McDowell have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Mustangs beginning with the 2016-17 season, SMU Head Coach Larry Brown announced today.

Wilson is a 6-5 guard at the Australian Institute of Sport. He was captain of the U17 and U19 Australian National Teams, helping the national program to a silver medal at the U17 World Championship. McDowell is a 6-5 guard at Southeast High School in Oklahoma City, where he was the 2015 All-City Conference Player of the Year.

Tom Wilson G 6-5 180 Melbourne, Australia (Australian Institute of Sport)

---------------------

Dashawn McDowell (G, 6-5, 185) is a guard for Coach Walter Brewer at Southeast High School in Oklahoma City. McDowell averaged 29.0 points as a junior and was named the 2015 All-City Conference Player of the Year. He played AAU for Urban DFW.

"He’s everything that we’re looking for in a player and a person. He’s a good student, he plays multiple positions and he’s a high-caliber kid. The more kids you can get who play multiple positions the luckier you are, and he has a chance to be really special. It’s a huge plus for our program.” --- Larry Brown

---------------------

Tom Wilson (G, 6-5, 180) is a guard for Coach Adam Caporn at the Australian Institute of Sport. He was the captain of the U17 and U19 Australian National teams. Wilson helped the Australian National Team to a silver medal at the U17 World Championship, averaging 12.3 points and 6.6 rebounds. In the gold medal game against the USA (lost 99-92), he had 23 points, six rebounds and seven assists.

“We’re getting a terrific young player. Tom is just a really good player that can play more than one position, and he knows how to play. The Australians have done really well internationally. They have a great program, and they have the Sports Academy. He could have gone to a lot of different places and we’re very fortunate.” --- SMU Head Coach Larry Brown

I like the flexibility our coaches will have going forward with multiple guys who can play at PG or the 2 position...but can these guys help us recruit some bigs for next year and beyond?

6'5" is the new 6'2"

If Wilson (and the Froling twins) bring Froling it's game on.

We still need more underneath but they will come.

I seriously doubt SMU would have taken him with only about 10 on scholarship available if he doesn't project to qualify for admission AND not be subject to the new mandatory freshman academic redshirt rule. So I am not too worried unless he blows a required core course. Starting with this Class, recruits had to have had at least 10 out of 16 core courses completed by the end of their Junior year and those scores are frozen. Therefore, schools will have a much higher insight into whether a kid will likely qualify BEFORE he even signs. Big change
"With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.

Chris Broussard informed me that his sources say otherwise
