If there is the chance for him to play QB, why not? The kid could show up and be a steal for SMU like Seneca Wallace was for iowa st.

Tell him he gets a shot at QB if it gets him here. In the spring, if he doesn't look like a viable option at QB, then move him. But at least you have this athlete on campus.

Has anyone ever come up with a conclusion concerning Phillips? If he isn't coming back, the addition of 2 JC's might be necessary, unless PB is comfortable with having a redshirt frosh as backup. Any word about Phillips?

I belive that one JUCO QB = Phillips is okay. 2 JUCO QB = not sure if Phillips will get back to 100%.

I don't believe we will go after Harrell anymore, Ehodes is our HS recruit this year. Haugabook will be recruited at QB, Johnson as an athlete. If Danna and Haugabook are both brought in, it would mean that we are not sure about Phillips.

to more accurately phrase that-I don't think Harrell is interested in us anymore.

Gee, your reaction is stunning. With as few scholarships as we have to offer this year, and with Rhoades on board and widespread speculation that we'll try to sign a JUCO quarterback, JasonB's assessment has a lot of merit. Maybe Harrell is still interested, maybe he's not. (In a recent story in the Holy Rivals, book of Harrell, he did speak highly of SMU .... but I'll follow your decision to ignore that.) The fact is that every college coaching staff has to manage its available scholarships. Or (newsflash!) maybe JasonB knows something you and I don't. It's possible, after all.

Phil Bennett said Chris Phillips is moving to TE. "He is still having problems with his rotator cuff, and he is too good of an athlete to keep off the field"

well, maybe Phillips can kick

I think the lingering rotator cuff problem is either dead on or as close to the truth as we've heard. That would explain why Phillips hasn't moped (at least outwardly) while watching two others play in front of him all year.

If the shoulder doesn't work, it doesn't work.

I heard several weeks ago that Phillips was a great kid and too good an athletic not to play but not at QB. That TE was a good fit since he apparently has put on some weight. Looks like PB has confirmed this.

If his shoulder is messed up to the extent that he can't throw, how well could he take a hit? Or how well will he be able to block?

Why are we discussing CP's old injury?

Healed or not, he never took a snap this year, and the coaching staff is encouraging him to move to TE. That should tell ya something (QB is not his future at SMU).

Given the crappy final play that got Ryan hurt, and the coaches desire to move Chase inside from TE, we need another quality TE in the mix.

Very interesting developments.

1) we are definately taking 2 JUCO Qbs and another as an athelete this year.

2) As far as TE is concerned, I like how the position is shaping up. Two big guys, with Chase and Kennedy. Chase the best blocker, and a great second TE. Then at H-Back you have McKinney, who showed pretty good hands in the practices I saw, and CP.

I smell an offense next year with a lot of 2 TE sets....

Also, with a rotator cuff injury, you can take a hit. It just sometimes doesn't heal quite right enough to allow you to regain your arm strength.

I doubt it. I won't argue that the coaches might like to, but considering the limited number of available scholarships, I can't see them spending three on QBs, or four if someone good offers to switch a commitment from another school.

I wouldn't be surprised at all. I guess you could say 1 QB and two atheletes. One of those atheletes would switch to a different position. we already have a JUCO OL. Then you add a JUCO OLB. That gives you 5 JUCO players. I wouldn't be surprised to see a sixth, a second OLB.

Of all of the positions, QB is a little easier to get in. They tend to take more courses that will transfer in...

I always thought it was the DT's that took the most advanced classes and made them an easier target for tranfer hours. Go A. Haywood
