Danna visited Wyoming this week and has also picked up an offer from Louisiana Tech as well as Wyoming. SMU has not offered but its seems obvious based on the quotes that he is really waiting on SMU to offer and this was to the Wyoming Rivals reporter.
SMU may have waited to long to offer Danna. Ole Miss is now listed as a school that has offered and he has HIGH interest in them. No report to back that up but I bet you may see one in 24 hours if its accurate-a lot of times a school's Rivals site will retain exclusive hold of info about that recruit for a day. Yesterday he was quoted as saying he was waiting on SMU to offer so despite what some of you have told me SMU has not offered or there is some confusion or delay.
Too enthusiastic about Ole Miss? If he doesn't have any offers yet, and Ole Miss seems like they might toss one his way, excitement is understandable. But if his desire to stay in Texas that Stallion quoted from his Blinn teammate (via rivals) is true, then maybe he'll just enjoy a trip to Oxford and come back.
Then again, if he's coming to SMU tomorrow, that might end the whole thing. Stallion's rivals report made it sound like Danna would accept if we offered. I have no idea how good this kid is, but if the coaches like him enough to offer him now, he might never make the trip to Oxford at all. Rise up, Mustang Nation!
Go SMU!
Here is the new rivals report:
Blinn Junior College quarterback Joe Danna is receiving interest from the Ole Miss coaching staff. "I have a lot of interest in Ole Miss," Danna said Tuesday. "I will definitely take a visit to Ole Miss sometime in the next two weeks." While its uncertain whether Danna has an offer from Ole Miss, he says that he expects to receive one on his visit. "Coach Slocum told me that they like me a lot and that I would receive an offer while on my visit," Danna said. "I have been to Wyoming already and I really liked it up there. I look forward to seeing what Ole Miss has to offer." "He is a great passer who has a knack of moving well in the pocket to avoid pressure," Brad Franchonie said. "He has a great arm, reads the field as good as any I have been around, he is a good one. "I have really enjoyed my stay here in Texas, it's a great brand of football and has prepared me for the next level," Danna said. "Ole Miss is very intriguing to me," he continued. "I would love to play in the SEC and they have a great reputation for quarterbacks and getting a great education." Danna is scheduled to take a visit to Louisiana Tech on Thursday and will probably leave early and take an official visit to SMU on Friday evening. "I'm going to try to schedule my visit to Oxford for sometime next week before the quiet and dead period," Danna said. "I might even go during the middle of the week. I will have to wait and see what's good for them as well." Since Danna was a full qualifer out of high school, he's not required to graduate from junior college to be eligible to sign with a Division I school; however, he appears to be on track to complete the requirements for his two-year degree.
No mention whatsoever of SMU in his comments. Sounds like he really wants to play in the SEC. My guess is he'll visit SMU, and hold off on committing until that Ole Miss trip. If they offer, he'll go...if not, he'll come here.
word on the Ole Miss Rivals board is that their 5th year QB pulled a David Page and decided not to enter graduate school at Ole Miss and will not return for his last year so he can enter the business world. This leaves Ole Miss will virtually no proven healthy QBs with experience(they got two commitments from HS Seniors including local QB Nick Stephens). Therefore, their No. 1 target may be Joe Danna who visited SMU this week.

Nothing has happened to it, I would assume, other than the fact that he'll be a redshirt freshman in the fall. He might still turn out to be as good as the most optimistic among us hopes .... but to this point, he has taken exactly zero snaps above the high school level. Danna (and other JUCO quarterbacks) have experience at a level above high schools. I don't see any reason to think anyone has given up on our man Willis. But if they have a chance to put a quarterback with some experience on the field, or at least to add a guy with whom Willis will have to compete -- thereby, conceivably, making both better -- then it makes complete sense.
I think it is pretty obvious at this point that with the CP injury, after Eckert got hurt, PB was trying to pump Willis up in case he had to play him. Once there were only 2 games left and we weren't going to qualify for a bowl, CP would have played and basically run the option.
Willis may very well develop into a very good QB, but PB has no interest in relying on a RS frosh to lead the team to a bowl. He is going to bring in some 2 JUCOs and may the best man win among the three. That says absolutely nothing about a lack of confidence in Willis, or pro-Willis, or anything. It is just something that makes complete and total sense to do.
