Why SMU, seeking only fourth win in past 25 games, looks like program 'on the rise'

Having ended an eight-game losing streak with its best performance of the Chad Morris era, SMU hopes to close the season with a relatively rare streak.
The Mustangs can claim consecutive victories for the first time since Nov. 23, 2013. That celebration was short-lived. After beating Connecticut and South Florida, they got shut out by Houston and then closed with an icy loss to Central Florida.
They finished one win shy of bowl eligibility, waved goodbye to quarterback Garrett Gilbert, and the future looked, well, uncertain.
But after only three wins in the last 25 games, SMU enters the season finale looking very much like a program on the rise.
