Look out if next year Chad has a good year & Sumlin doesn't!

NATIVES ARE GETTING RESTLESS IN COLLEGE STATION!

This was a very bad loss for Kevin Sumlin's program.

It feels like I've written the same post game recap every time we've lost this season. It's the same damn recipe... defense does enough, offense doesn't carry their weight. Plenty of teams have moved the ball against this LSU defense, yet we were completely inept tonight. If I told you before the game that we'd hold LSU to less than 200 yards rushing...you'd think that was a guaranteed win, right? But no. Somehow we lose. This is déjà vu and it's getting really really frustrating.

LSU is not a good team. We could have won. But we're not a very good team and we lost. The end.

Defense did fine. They deserve nothing but praise. We're running a true freshman at linebacker, a converted RB at CB and we played hard. They carried the team this game. I have nothing bad to say about them. Hell, I feel like John Chavis is the only coach that earned his check.

Special teams were a mess. I'm willing to give Jeff Banks a pass here because this game was an anomaly.

Offensively, we've got 5-stars at QB and WR and yet we can't get any consistent production. We've got talent across the line yet we can't protect our QB. Our RB is a hoss and runs his [deleted] off and yet our playcalling is so disjointed that we never let him shine. The offense is a damn mess. An absolute mess.

And sure the easy solution is to fire Jake Spavital. He has done little to deserve another year as the OC of a team with this much talent. But offense is Kevin Sumlin's specialty. And this makes two years running where our offense has underperformed late in the year. Spav shoulders some of the blame, but Sumlin deserves the lion's share at this point.

Yeah, we won 8 games. And we could finish with 9 wins this year. But a 9 win season where we lost to Ole Miss, Alabama, Auburn, and LSU is not acceptable. Sumlin has been given every single thing he's asked for. Every single thing. And here we are.

So yeah. The future is uncertain right now. We'll make a good hire on offense. We'll hopefully win our bowl. We'll sign some damn good recruits. But we are entering into what feels like the decline of the Kevin Sumlin era at Texas A&M. Maybe I'm wrong, and maybe next year is our breakout year... but so far this era seems like one marked by a lot of promise but little performance.

LSU is not a great team, but a pretty good one.

That performance yesterday is proof that CM isn't ready for a major P5 job. If you run out an effort like that at Texas A&M you are fired on Monday morning. I'm sure Chad is humiliated (as he should be) by what we ran out there yesterday but his focus must be on recruiting and continuing to build D1A level depth on this roster. Right now you have to give him the benefit of the doubt as I believe there is still so much residual June quitters and D2 level talent on this roster that it made it very difficult for him and the staff to put a competitive product on the field.

I don't ever want to see an effort like that again. We can pay someone a hell of a lot less than $2M a season to put a product on the field like that.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Just from Stallion's recruiting analysis and thoughts, Chad has been pummeling June to death in the recruiting department. We have some many kids with P5 offers which is just so different from past years.

This will become a valid point as soon as any aggie coach has to play against a team with that much of a talent Gap.

SMU 49 - Tulane 21
Memphis 41 - Tulane 13 (Memphis 15 - Tulane 13 @ half)

Memphis 63 - SMU 0

Something doesn't add up. Use the talent excuse all you want. This team got beat like that, because they were woefully UNPREPARED, which is the responsibility of the coaches.

Depends on what you consider a "good year". He's going to need at least 8 wins to be taken seriously for that job. And of course we all know that isn't going to happen.

Footballdad, I can look up a score any given week and say so and so is over/underrated because they played so and so tech who lost to around the corner U by 17 who beat Alabama tech state agricultural management school of theology by 30 so so and so is this good. I'm not saying the team was prepared for this game but one game is not the difference maker. Why not focus on the game against tcu in that case?

I didn't watch any of Tulanes games but maybe 1.they haven't given up 700 yards in 3 plus games this year?
2. Tulane scored all of their points in the first half..Likely Memphis came out flat and made adjustments at halftime whereas they did not come out flat Saturday.
3.(and this feeds into2) maybe it may have kind of been a deal breaker for Fuente to virgina tech if he lost to smu? Or for his job prospects in general to lose to what was last year the worst team in cfb history and has given up multiple ncaa/school records this year?

I don't see why everyone is being so gloom and doom about a game that even sunshine rs knew on a good day we'd probably lose by 42.

Sure maybe with a little better prep the final score is 49-6. Happy? I didn't see anyone on the defense could run with a Memphis skill player. Also didn't see an offensive linemen who could block a Memphis lb/DL all day. Pardon me if I'm putting words in your mouth but it seems that you had the unreasonable expectation that this game would be slightly competitive

The coaches did fumble 6 times losing 4 and didn't throw an interception for a total of 5 turnovers. To me it looked like the players had no interest in the game.

The coaches may or may not have had the guys prepared but for sure the players showed very little heart from the opening kickoff.
