Couldn't we just get about 5 Defensive JUCO guys, who normally sign with K State every year, to sign with us in a week or 2 for this spring etc. ? :D

Most of the kids that played major roles on defense this year wouldn't crack the three deep at Tarleton State. Is Malone in over his head? Maybe so. Time will tell. All I know is that there was no scheme or coaching that could account for being devoid of talent.

BTW - I am not suggesting that Malone should be fired. He inherited a mess. But, I would like Morris/Hart to see if they could find some money to get Malone some experienced help.

Bill Young was our D Line coach for like two weeks, before Tulsa hired him as their DC. He was a former DC himself and he supposed to be the seasoned veteran to help out Malone. Guess that didn't exactly work out.

Nobody should be fired after one season, they are too good of recruiters to do that. Just want to see some adjustments made.

Count the difference makers on the roster after this season. I think that is what Reb is pointing out earlier on how a single player on the DL can make the whole thing better. Don't worry about who is average or below average. The average joes can play if you have difference makers around them.

Leaving the incoming class out of this - frosh may come in and start, but it is hard for them to be true difference makers.

CB - none proven, hope for Kevin Johnson.
S - none proven, hope for Clemons
DE - Lawler. More of a 3-4 end, had a good season but with his frame I think he is a difference maker when he moves to the strong side. Hope for the Scott brothers.
DT - Hope for Gentry, Biggurs.
LB- Hope for Williams, McNew. Kyrian and Rhone may end up being solid, but don't think they are difference makers.

So, on defense, DE could be a decent group, but really a lot of pressure on the youth outside of that position. The players expected to take the next step - H Rich, D Rich, Shaq, Horton, Minor - never have. That is the issue with DITR recruiting, when your "hits" end up being average, you are in a lot of trouble.

OL- Hope for Barns, Wilds. Pursley, Brown, McCarty, Hyder are still young, but don't strike as dominant.
QB - Hope for Hicks, Colbert, Davis. Leaving Davis in there for now, he shows flashes, but really disappointed the backend of the season.
RB - West, Jones, hope for Nlemchi.
TE - Hope for Gaines
WR - Sutton, hope for Thomas, Castille, Proche Gaillard, Honey

The offense is obviously way ahead of the defense. If you can get 6 difference makers on the field at any given time, you will have a very good unit. We are already going to be there on offense next season. We just need the offensive line to perform at an average level to avoid negative plays. I'm interested to hear about Barns - in the spring, when the offensive line struggled, we moved Lasecki to guard and played him at center and things improved drastically. During this season, we moved 71 to guard instead of doing that. Not sure why.

Tulsa's Defense actually finished worse than SMU's Defense in Total Defense. Its funny because it was a total laydown but the Memphis game actually helped us significantly in statistics. Take solace knowing that there are actually 9 defenses worse than SMU in Total defense

Indiana is surprising to me. They were competitive in some of their games

I doubt there will be more than three defensive recruits that redshirt.

And Tulsa's Bill Young is an experienced DC. Not saying he is a good DC but he has experience.

They didn't fire their coach b/c they were afraid nobody would want it.

Looked like HCCM and offensive coaches were visiting Webb in San Angelo.

Looks like all the coaches are in serious recruiting mode.

Until our DB's can cover someone and our LB can aversge more tackles per game than I did ...

If we have one good DE that can consistently put pressure on the QB our DB's and LB's will look better imo.

Fields and Blake did well as freshmen for TCU at DE in their 4-2-5. Maybe Gary could do the same for us.
