He also has a Co-DC with experience. Experience doesn't mean much when you don't have any talent.

BTW - I am not suggesting that Malone should be fired. He inherited a mess. But, I would like Morris/Hart to see if they could find some money to get Malone some experienced help.

Bill Young was our D Line coach for like two weeks, before Tulsa hired him as their DC. He was a former DC himself and he supposed to be the seasoned veteran to help out Malone. Guess that didn't exactly work out.

This. I think the issue was that Van Malone is a great recruiter, and the only way to have him come over is as a defensive coordinator, so that was non negotiable from the start...Bill Young as DC and Malone as Secondary coach would have been the best scenario but if Bill Young was the DC, Malone would not be here since it would have been a lateral/slightly downward move. Can't say Chad didn't try...
Same for OC...I think Chad wanted Jeff Scott, now Clemson OC to be our OC/WR coach and Craddock as our QB coach.

99% of the time, a mistake by an offensive player (or his coach) results in something no worse than a loss of yardage (sack/penalty/stuffed run/etc).

Unfortunately, recruiting only gets a defense so far as mistakes by players (or coaches) often results in a TD for the other team. Regardless of what happens on the coaching front, next year's team is going to be very young. Hopefully, our defensive staff figures out how to protect them with schemes/techniques.

Bill Young did not do very well at Tulsa this year in case you had not noticed. See sbsmith's comment.

SMU's biggest problem for the past 30 years has been talent as well. Once that is figured out, our coaches will look like geniouses

too bad Sutton didn't receive honors but he undeniably tailed off in last half of the season

now could you rate our talent at each position in categories of "Above Average" "Average" and "Below Average"---when you get some time

Too bad the best Mascot can't get honored. At least we would win there.

That's pathetic.

Surprised we were totally shut out at first. Even UCF has someone on the list. But looking at it, I don't know where you could argue we should have someone included. Ouch!

But Tulane's Defense has 2 first teamers? The defense that SMU scored 49 points on? Seems like a bit of a joke. Don't at all see how that Nico Marley kid is a first teamer. Whether voting or stats bear it out, Courtland was second team worthy. Hedlund was worthy.

I think that it was funny that PonyFans displayed an advertisement for Depends when I opened this thread.

I wasn't surprised. We had no standouts on defense. On offense, we had an OK QB, two freshman RB's who fumbled a lot, and Sutton.

Game of the year for SMU offense. Much like when Texas played OU.
