He said he want to recruit the city of Memphis first and then branch out. I am excited what recruits in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiania he could bring our way on signing day. All our commits love the hire and his wide open offense. He said he will place no limits on this team and wants them to take the next step to reaching the next level.

He got me pumped and wanting to strap up and play for him!!! Very well spoken for a young coach.

Fuente did what most smart coaches do...bailed on a high note knowing he was losing his stud QB next year if he had stayed. Doubtful Memphis will be as good next year without him. QB position may be more critical than ever in today's game. Just hope we have someone on campus next year who can unseat Davis as our starter.

Offense isn't even going to change that much. Norvell and the Memphis staff are good friends anyway. So expect to keep some of the staff previously with Fuente. I want to keep Darrell Dickie and Rick Hunley for sure.

But there's a big difference between a sophomore (or RS freshman) with a new HC running the offense and a first round draft pick running the thing with a proven HC and OC.

It will continue to take a highly unique, driven, creative coach to maintain the 'mo at Memphis. The campus is stuck in 1975 with mediocre facilities, at best. Education is "U of H" like, on a good day. New guy will hang 2-3 years, maybe, and bust back to the West Coast or grab the Mississippi State, etc job when available. Memphis State's ability to string together consecutive "great" hires will be tested.

Agree, Stallion....but from a macro perspective, very similar programs. Memphis fans would view their status as well above UH and because of that, probably some fuming even though they are now about to elect Norvel as Mayor of the city....see how long that last and how long he stays.

Even as a Memphis fan I have to say Houston has always been a better job and it's for every possible reason. Houston has always had at least a little money, best recruiting in the country, built in rivals in Rice and other schools, access to major stadiums to play football in when they haven't played at home, and has been in a major conference before. Memphis, as much as I love them, has had none of that accept for access to the Liberty Bowl. Hopefully Norvell and Bowen can work to change all that.
