The MWC Bowl

Postby MustangStealth » Mon Dec 07, 2015 10:46 am

Colorado St. and Nevada will play each other in one of the new bowl games, highlighting how bad the MWC bowl contracts are.

Would love to get SDSU, CSU, and Boise to join The American and truly create a "Middle One" conference :P

Unless we get poached, there is absolutely no reason to add western teams. Too far and nobody cares about any of those teams. They used to care about Boise, but don't now.

It is a joke and I actually feel for them. It's all based on this whole mentality of college football being a business rather than letting a team who DOESN"T HAVE A LOSING RECORD play first.

Bowls literally mean nothing now.

Add it to the book of CFB oddities, next to the Colorado/Cal non-conference game in 2011.

The Col/Cal non-con game made sense though. They had scheduled it years before CU made it to the Pac 12 so that made sense to me.

This is just stupid.

Im thinking of taking the kids to this game. Was hoping for a more interesting matchup though.

Much to my surprise, the AAC is on the upswing and has already separated itself from the MWC in terms of overall quality. Bringing in more mouths to feed would be a huge mistake.

Wouldn't that depend on the kind of TV deal the conference could renegotiate? You'd be adding teams in two more time zones and one (SDSU) in a top media market. You could have AAC games from 10AM to midnight. Also, you'd effectively kill off the chance of any school from the MWC, CUSA, MAC, or Sun Belt getting into the Jan.1 G5 bowl game.

West - SDSU, CSU, Boise State, Tulsa, SMU, Houston, Memphis

East - Tulane, UCF, USF, Cincy, Temple, Navy, UCONN

No. No. Just No.
No more timezones. 2 timezones and 12 teams is just right.

The Cable networks are losing subscribers. They aren't going to be upping the rights fees to add spare schools.

No more new teams. We have separated ourselves and are considered the best of the Go5 thanks to football this year and the basketball performances the past few.

Exactly right. Plus, with all the coaching deals in the AAC a lot of teams are making promises to facilities development.

The American could find itself proving itself a Power conference de facto, even if not de jure.

San Diego is not a top media market. It's 28th in the country.

There's a reason we're losing the Chargers to butt [deleted] Los Angeles

And that reason is that neither the city of San Diego nor SD County stepped up and funded a modern stadium a decade ago. Qualcomm is old, has few high-revenue seats, a scoreboard from 1996, and front-row sideline seats are 30 yards from the field. And yet no one thought that maybe the Chargers would one day have a better option. Doesn't help that there's a funding crunch out there
