AAC Future Playoff

Postby PerunasHoof » Mon Dec 07, 2015 1:37 pm

So, U of H went 12-1 this year and plays FSU to end the season. Let's say they win. They should finish with a top 10 ranking. Next year their OOC schedule includes Oklahoma and Vanderbilt.

If they run the table next year (that's assuming a lot with a game against OU), you would have to imagine our conference would have a realistic chance to be included in the playoff right?

They lose a ton on defense next and the RB Farrow. Herman has recruited very well but I think they'll take a small step back next season. Hypothetically speaking though yeah they would have a legit chance at the playoff if they run the table next year.
Back off Warchild seriously.

They would probably need at least 2 P5 champions to have multiple losses.

Right I could see the CFP sending something like both mich St and Iowa had it been Houston in the top ten, OU with two losses and Alabama.

Agreed. I think this school of thought was validated by tcu and bsu getting stuck in a bowl together and florida vs cincy in 09. Maintain the status quo and give the little guys their "BCS bowl#, then pat everyone on the back and act like everyone got a fair shake

Well, if they have OU next season then that's their ticket in. They run the table and OU wins the Big XII.
A friend of mine told me Vandy returns everyone next year, so they may be a bowl team but that won't help them much.

That being said, if Houston goes undefeated, beats OU, and goes to the playoff, then I say that cements it for them for the Big XII, no TV market or not.

I really don't think U of H goes to the Big 12 no matter what, but who knows. I don't see how UT/OU would want to add more competition for Texas recruits. They now have TCU and BU competing with them and winning recruiting battles for P5 recruits. I doubt they would want to add Houston, or us if we get better, to that mix.

OU and OSU wanted Memphis. UT and TCU said no. Only somewhat attractive school is Houston. They don't want to but will with Houston and Cincy

I don't think the Big XII has a lot of good options. Cincy and BYU are the best available, IMHO, but they have their own issues. Memphis has had a hot hand lately but their problems still remain. Houston may just be the best of the bunch. Besides, by letting in someone outside the state you make the argument that you now have more competition for Texas recruits while Houston already competes for Houston area recruits.

But who knows.

Bronco left BYU knowing they are stuck being independent. I know you love Memphis but they are behind Houston and Cincy now. FredEx and Memphis were given a chance to demonstrate their commitment to major athletics and failed giving Houston and opening which they have taken full advantage of.

I just don't think the Big 12 will expand, because they don't need to. Not having a conference championship game hurt them last year, but I think it will help more often than hurt. It's already really difficult to go undefeated in a season, and then add a tough championship game in there and I think over time you'll see upsets in championship games that take teams out of the playoff rather than in.

They just wanted the option to add a conference championship game in case they kept getting left out. If the Big 12 keeps making the play-off the next few years they will just shelve the whole deal because it will be a moot point.

Correction, as long as Bevo and Boomer don't get left out, they see no reason to change

Well, adding a good U of H team wouldn't make their path any easier.

Is this your opinion? I tend to agree that Houston and Cincinnati are next in line, but I'm not sure that it's actually close to happening.
