With no NCAA tournament option this year, suspect that they may decide to redshirt and get two full years out of Semi, vs wasting one of those years on a half season that has no post season play.
If this is the case, I hope we do redshirt.
As for what is in the scout thread, I have no idea - but I suspect it is something regarding the NCAA trying to screw us as usual on this particular situation.
Exactly. They are thinking of redshirting Semi so that they can get two years of tourney out of him. Not sure if that changes or not based on the MK injury last night. Redshirting Semi would also do Tolbert and MK right by giving them a lot more playing time in their senior year when they can't go to the tourney.

While I was excited about seeing Semi this year, if this is the reasoning, I'd be fine with that.

I was thinking 3 instead of 2.5. I thought 2.5 was the original eligibility.

How does it help recruiting? Just by adding more money to get better writers? Honest question, not trying to pick a fight.
It's helpful in two respects. 1.) In theory, more subscribers permits there two be two recruiting services both trying to better one another in terms of service. Competition leads to more info, leads to more people for the services reaching out and covering more recruits on a consistent basis. 2.) In a nutshell, it gets microphones in front of recruits faces. Now, one could philosophically debate the value of this--or, quite frankly--the generally off-putting nature of following around high school kids. But, in the world we live in, with these sports, it's very helpful to have dedicated and hard-working writers at the recruiting services because they call these kids, they ask them about SMU, they put the microphone out there, and to an extent, remind these kids of SMU when 30 other sites are doing the same thing. The opposite of this was when Laken was the editor of Scout. She was dreadful. And, at the time, I think that Rivals was between solid publishers. So you had one atrocious site manager who openly talked sh*t about SMU and cast it in the most negative light possible all while providing zero coverage of value.

Makes sense. I've really considered doing it this year because of the trajectory of both our programs. Which one do you like better? Part of the reason I haven't is that if you wait, you typically get the information anyways, and I already waste a lot of time on here. Adding another would really kill what productivity I have left!

Speaking of old Paywall folks, our old buddy Armen Williams just got a new gig in Denver. He was the man. http://blog.timesunion.com/sportsmedia/ ... ver/16952/

Last night I was talking about this with a friend of mine in the spirit shop in Moody. Someone watched us talk and then immediately started typing furiously into their phone. I half expected it to pop up on here after that conversation. I heard other people talking about it earlier in the evening. Not sure when Scout posted their information. It's kind of funny in today's age you really never do know where information comes from, because everything states everything like it is matter-of-fact.

this is a massive stretch. the more efficient way to support recruiting is to donate, or buy an extra $9 beer at each game. it's more fair to simply say, "pay for your own subscription if you want paywall content, you bum."

No, it's not a stretch.
But if sounds better, fine, "pay for your own subscription if you want paywall content, you bum[s]."

I get most, if not all, of my information from hanging out in the Moody Spirit Shop and eavesdropping on others conversations. Though it can be much more expensive if you have to buy some gear, I highly recommend this over Scout or Rivals.

disagree. If you are a recruit and there is someone with a mic in their hand interviewing you from every school you are considering EXCEPT SMU - then it might just make you feel like we are not worthy. If we cant support at least one pay site than we probably ARE not worthy.

Ha ha. It's like 8 bucks a month. Everyone on here should be paying for both just to get more info on the teams and get a better view of recruiting. It's unfortunate that they get their panties in a wad about sharing information publically, because frankly 1) it drives more traffic their direction and 2) all the information is either complete rumor or handed to them by the school and shouldn't be behind closed doors anyway. Back when they only had two stories a year, I get why they freaked out about public discussion because they had very little value. Now, however, there are enough people saying Scout is worth it that they shouldn't worry. And even if everyone shared info over here, everyone would still be saying Scout is worth it. The constant flow of articles and recruiting insights provide more value than rumors on a message board.
