Cumbie turns down Texas OC jobSays no to a salary raise from $350k to $1M and full play calling duties.
Wow.... http://texas.247sports.com/Article/Sour ... U-41882413
Re: Cumbie turns down Texas OC jobLots more job security with Patterson than Strong I would say.
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: Cumbie turns down Texas OC jobWith Strong on the Very Hot Seat and not awesome QB talent, taking the job would have a high risk venture. Basically, he would have only 1 season to fix the mess Strong made of the Horns offense.
I predict that the Aggies come calling. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: Cumbie turns down Texas OC job
Sumlin will be gone before Strong
Re: Cumbie turns down Texas OC jobagree. Strong will be fine in my view - and the aggies are getting impatient.
Re: Cumbie turns down Texas OC job
Strong has Sam Ellenger coming in 2017 that every Texas fan wants
Re: Cumbie turns down Texas OC job
you have no idea...church after the LSU game was rather somber. stable-boy for the four horsemen of the apocalypse
Re: Cumbie turns down Texas OC jobHearing Meacham is taking the Tulane HC job
Re: Cumbie turns down Texas OC job
Aren't OC contracts guaranteed? Even if Strong gets fired after next season, Cumbie would still have $2.5M+ coming to him. Can't see how FW is preferable to 3X the pay in Austin.
Re: Cumbie turns down Texas OC jobHe probably has something else lined up. HC job most likely.
Re: Cumbie turns down Texas OC job
If Strong doesn't win in 2016, he is gone before Ellenger arrives. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: Cumbie turns down Texas OC jobYou don't know that
Re: Cumbie turns down Texas OC job
While a guaranteed contract protects their pocketbooks, it doesn't protect their career prospects from a serious failure. - If he succeeds at his next job (or in his current job), Cumbie gets a HC job as soon as 2017. - If he fails at UT with Strong, he is looking for a 2017 job with a weak hand. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: Cumbie turns down Texas OC job
You think they will fire Strong after next year and keep the OC in place for the new HC? Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: Cumbie turns down Texas OC job
1) If Strong gets fired after next season, do you really think all of the blame will rest on the OC? He's a young coach and that hardly sounds like a career killing move. 2) $2.5M is far greater than the $700K+ he'll make in FW.
