SB Nation: SMU is thriving in spite of post-season banModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: SB Nation: SMU is thriving in spite of post-season banFirst, We were Wilson's best offer by far. Second, he's a hoops historian, so he likes the Larry Brown angle and yes, he was a fan of Iveraon. However, on the newest Froling vine, Wilson references the dream shake as the move fro pulls off. He just knows hoops beyond his years.
You guys are insane, if you think any of the bigs left on our 16 board are there if we pushed sanctions back. We'd likely have lost much of our junior and frosh class as well.
Re: SB Nation: SMU is thriving in spite of post-season ban
Where else did he have offers? I thought the list was pretty respectable no?
Re: SB Nation: SMU is thriving in spite of post-season ban
What do you think our chances are with Kapita, Bruno, and Froling? Individually not together
Re: SB Nation: SMU is thriving in spite of post-season ban
Don't believe the hype, few recruit Australia unless they are staff connected. His visits dictate his offers and it looks like smu, Boise st and grand canyon U. Don't get it twisted, he can go, just didn't get much trail attention other than from those who were already close
Re: SB Nation: SMU is thriving in spite of post-season ban
I feel strongly that we get one for sure, prob 2. Bruno is sorta killing folks on the nations #1 team, so he's going to get every spring offer in the world. He was on espn2 the other day vs Huntington and mashed about as many dunks as Tolbert did Firmly think we need Froling and one of the African kids, not Kapita and Bruno. Froling offers skill but has limited foot quickness. Bruno or Kapita compliment that
Re: SB Nation: SMU is thriving in spite of post-season banHate we are missing post season this year, but if we would have challenged and lost post season for next year that means all the Juniors could have transferred out to other programs to have a chance at the dace.
Ben Moore, Sterling Brown, Ben E, Keith Frazier, and who knows what Semi would have done. You lose 3 or 4 of the above and you set the program back. Just win.
Re: SB Nation: SMU is thriving in spite of post-season banYea I think anyone who looks at the post season ban from a non-emotional attachment to this years team realizes that you had to stop the bleeding and not allow any issues for recruiting for next year.
We need 2 bigs in the 2016 class and likely 2 more in the 2017 class. Hope we get them.
Re: SB Nation: SMU is thriving in spite of post-season banLarry was against appealing the post season ban, and I support Larry.
Re: SB Nation: SMU is thriving in spite of post-season ban
Wrong, he never said anything about competing for national championships in that interview. You must be thinking of another one. Here is the quote. "But the sanctions didn't bother me at all really," he added. "SMU have a great coaching staff and I'm very confident that they're going to be able to continue to bring great players into the program." Plus as Hoopmanx said that we were his best offer. He going to come to SMU either way. #HammerDown
Re: SB Nation: SMU is thriving in spite of post-season ban
That does not say he would have come even if we had a post season ban next year, it says he is not bothered by the scholarship reduction for next year. You do have a quote from him saying he would have come even if we had a ban next year, right?
Re: SB Nation: SMU is thriving in spite of post-season ban
Just hope none of them have transcript, grade, or high school accreditation issues. #HammerDown
Re: SB Nation: SMU is thriving in spite of post-season ban
You're asking me to set aside my emotional attachment to an SMU team? You know who you're talking to, right? ![]() Don't get me wrong, I get the counterarguments, and I definitely see the silver lining and am thrilled about the developing story line about the NCAA bullies depriving SMU and the the world of what could have been. I just thought we could file an appeal, put pressure to get a ruling before the tourney, and then drop the appeal later if either (1) the season goes south and it looks like we wouldn't be in it or wouldn't have a good chance, or (2) the NCAA drags its feet to much and, in fact, recruiting is impacted the way everyone is saying it might have been. Perhaps, given the long history of disappointment, I am just not as confident that we will be seeing as talented, committed, and experienced a team, even with recruiting, as the one we actually have now for a long time. Nevertheless, I'm so glad the team has pulled together and turned a negative into a positive. So, yeah, let's win them all.
Re: SB Nation: SMU is thriving in spite of post-season banHmm so you think we will still pull off signing Froling? I would agree one of the other two
Re: SB Nation: SMU is thriving in spite of post-season banMuch of this thread has been what I like to call the PonyFanum ad absurdum.
We are literally calling each other out for a specific quote on either side of an argument about whether a kid would or would not have come to SMU based on the timeline of a postseason ban. A person's side is defended by vague assurances that no one can prove in the case of one kid, yet the other side must prove an exact quote in a particular form from a reputable source, in which case said source will be downplayed or ridiculed. What makes this dialogue even more absurd is that we accepted the ban prior to the early signing period, which means no one had to decide whether to sign papers with that hanging over our head, so these kids could have easily just told everyone who asked "we will see how it plays out" and deferred or talked their way around the subject in order to avoid an official position. Never mind that one-off statements from high schoolers to some random journalist they've never met are not the most iron-clad statements out there. That said, please carry on. ![]()
Re: SB Nation: SMU is thriving in spite of post-season ban
Play them that sweet Youtube of all those Tolbert dunks. What big man wouldn't want to come here? Nic may be the prime feeder but it's the coaching that's creating the opportunities. Add to that we'll have 5 or six guys who can lob it up there. Party at The Wopper!
