Potential MWC Expansionhttp://www.cbssports.com/collegefootbal ... -expansion
If I was them I would want to get out of C-USA too. Does anyone know how much we (the AAC) get monetary wise? I'm curious how we compare to them. Thanks!
Re: Potential MWC ExpansionWow. That would even further gut CUSA.
I agree that it is a good move for those schools. CUSA has become the Sun Belt and the TV deal/exposure is practically zero. Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: Potential MWC ExpansionMakes sense for both schools...especially for UTEP.
Re: Potential MWC ExpansionWell when Houston goes to the Big 12 Rice should replace them
Re: Potential MWC ExpansionAnd utep can replace cinci
Re: Potential MWC Expansion
'Horns are never going to allow that to happen. Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: Potential MWC Expansion
Just wait
Re: Potential MWC ExpansionWell after your basketball penalty prognostications I'm taking what you've got with a healthy dose of salt Sportsradamus

In theory you will never be wrong as you didn't put an end date to our waiting ![]()
Re: Potential MWC Expansion
Current TV Deals: CUSA: $11MM/year (this one will likely drop the next time it is renegotiated) MWC: $12MM/year AAC: $18MM/year Playoff payouts: $12MM each, plus a small bonus based on final rankings, plus a large bonus for the conference that gets the NY6 bowl (MWC in 2014, AAC in 2015) Bowl payouts: The net from these to the conferences is pretty small, and comparable for AAC and MWC. CUSA is a little lower. Basketball money: Each "unit" is worth $1.67MM, this is a relatively small amount in the total pool, but we should typically have an advantage here as well most years.
Re: Potential MWC ExpansionThe article mentions the hurdle of getting the schools to agree to split revenue two more ways. That conference is especially sensitive to conference revenues given the financial state of the California state schools, not to mention Hawaii with their enormous athletic costs to operate so far away from everyone. IDK if a school president would justify letting utep split the pie just for geographic convenience. Rice brings more to the table though
SMU Class of 2014
Re: Potential MWC ExpansionNot sure why every thinks rice is such a good replacement for anyone. They draw worse than us in both sports, and are smaller, and care less. They don't have big money behind sports (very much so behind the school - but not sports). Just because they used to be in the SWC does not mean they have a future. I wouldn't be shocked if they drop football altogether. Their students and alums might not notice or even care.
Re: Potential MWC Expansion
I've been telling that to my Rice friends for a few years now. SMU provided the roadmap. Drop FB and make a huge push in BB. Endgame for them could be BE membership. Seriously, what are the benefits of Rice maintaining FB? Whatever their issues, it will only get worse with time.
Re: Potential MWC Expansion
Drop FB? Put down the pipe
Re: Potential MWC Expansioni just wish airport al was alive to see it.
