Yes, and the last time Alabama was placed on a three year probation (its most recent term) there were no scholarship reductions or post season bans. Hmmmm.... just sayin. Yes, the SEC has committed major violations but with very few, maybe even 0, post season bans. I am talking football here. So maybe it is the wrong board, but hopefully you get my drift.

I didn't think I was very defensive. Trying to inform people . . . that's why majority of my post was quotes from the report. I think there is an overarching sentiment that SMU was targeted unfairly which ignores that we were on probation because of the former compliance department's falsified report, and this investigation was a direct result of that probation. That's not opinion, that is directly cited in the NCAA report.

I don't mean to come across defending the NCAA. I wholeheartedly believe the NCAA is a complete joke. But SMU is a voluntary member of that association, so we're stuck with it for now.

I do find this comment misplaced. "It appears like it doesn't matter at all. Besides that, I don't like to get in the habit of blaming the person that preceded you."

It does matter and it appears to matter in the NCAA's report. It kept us from getting an Aggravation penalty that carries a longer postseason ban. I also don't think anyone (me or the current athletics department) ever blamed the preceding compliance department. The NCAA did - I merely iterated that it was the NCAA's position.

You can have your opinion. I'll stick with the information in the report.
"This is . . . dedication to distraction by fans. Is that what I'm going to go with Jay?"
"That poor kid has to be wondering what is dad doing."

Ahhhh, the Dean Wermer super-secret double probation. It's a killer every time. The NCAA version of probation and punishment for the SEC and other big conference teams often equates to me grounding my kid from the 50" tv but allowing him to use the 42" one. Looks good on paper...but really amounts to nothing and reinforces the standard.

I'm guessing you forgot the season Auburn football was ranked top 10 but we're not bowl eligible due to sanctions a few years ago.
