Many people didn't realize that while Plano (Texas) Senior High School may have been a team to be reckoned with before they went down in the late rounds of the state playoffs, there may be some prospects emerging from their talented roster. For one, there is the 6-foot-2, 185-pound wide receiver Greg Rideaux who struggled to really emerge in an offense that was heavily based on the run with star Justin Jordan being the featured player. However, the interest all of a sudden has hit the Dallas area player in a hurry.

"It's very interesting, I can give you that," Rideaux said about his first experiences with the recruiting process. "All these schools like Alabama, SMU, Kansas, LSU, and Oklahoma I didn't hear a thing from, and then now they've been calling me all of a sudden. Nothing has been talked about as for an offer, but they say they're interested."

Rideaux's mother is currently getting visits set up to Oklahoma, LSU, Alabama, and possibly SMU.

"The coaches at all of those schools have really just introduced to me what they have to offer me both athletically and academically," Rideaux said. "I want to do graphic design stuff, so they really focus on what they have there with that."

Rideaux says it's early to start guessing who will offer, but he does have a favorite.

"Well, I want to go to Oklahoma," he said. "I just kind of like them. My family has liked them as well. Plus, I'm not a Texas fan at all. It kind of just works out well that way."

Rideaux finished the year with 13 receptions for 370 yards and six touchdowns.

hmmm knew there must be more to the story than the writer uncovered with only 13 receptions even if he averages 30 yards per catch. Turns out Rideaux is one of the top 110 Meters and 300 Meters Hurdlers in the State and has been since at least his sophmore year. Also, ran the sprint relays along with Justin Jourdan. So at 6-2 you might get a kid that can run a legitimate sub 4.5 and is state ranked hurdler. BTW anybody who watches Plano will see that they have a 5-9 QB who often keeps the ball on the option-Justin Jourdan the RB only carried the ball himself about 14 times a game so the QB is the key runner in the offense-its very possible that he had very few opportunities but note he scored 6 TDs on 13 catches so thats almost 50% of his catches went for TDs-he had a 76 yarder against SL Carroll. I wouldn't be surprised if he will want to go to a school with a world class track team---ooopps. BTW Mike Renfro's kid really is one of the best hurdlers in the state too-Renfro is an outstanding athlete with some incredible track times in the hurdles-he is not just a good kid in a great offensive scheme-the kid can fly.

Yes! An interest for which there actually is an available program at SMU. I was worried for a second that he was going to say he wanted to major in Sports Management or something, in which case we'd of course have been screwed.

Y'know, the academic program limitation reaches even further than athletics. Two years ago, our (Methodist) pastor's daughter was graduating HS...and was on her way to...tcU!? When I asked why the Perkins alum was sending her daughter to FW, it was because her kid's desired major was available in Amon Carter land, but not on the Hilltop.

Oh it's great. We can also offer the kid a chance to pursue his track career in the off season. Didn't our Track team finish 4th the year before last at NCAA? Oh, wait, we don't have a track team...........hope he doesnt' want to run track anymore.

RGV, sorry to hear that, but SMU can't be everything to everyone. Just isn't the situation or endowment. Maybe she went for teaching or nursing. Otherwise, SMU and tcu offer similar majors. For most all of it, SMU blows doors on tcu. I could never imagine going to tcu for communications. My SMU cinema experience was way better than even some of the big "film" schools when I was a student.

It still sucks about the track and field programs though.
