Pretty ridiculous this is even being mentioned after only 9 games, but it's pretty fun to say the least 1. What chances do you give SMU of going undefeated? Andy Katz: None. The Mustangs still have to play Gonzaga, and running the table in the American seems like a long shot. UConn, Cincinnati and Tulsa are more than capable of knocking off SMU. Eamonn Brennan: Zero. Don't get me wrong: The Mustangs are really good, and they do play in a conference where the night-to-night routines are alleviated by the likes of East Carolina, UCF, Tulane, South Florida and so on. Then again, the American does have a few challengers at hand, namely UConn and Cincinnati, and besides, it takes something special, something like what Kentucky had last year, to think seriously about the U-word. SMU is not that team. Dana O'Neil: None, but only because I don't give any team a good chance of going undefeated. There's no doubt the Mustangs are the class of the American, and with no postseason hopes, winning them all would certainly be a nice runner-up prize (not to mention make things super awkward for the NCAA), but I don't see it happening. Either Cincinnati or UConn will have something to say about it before the season is over. http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketb ... undefeated

Those all seem like fair, even handed, and realistic assessments/expectations. It sure would be awesome, though.

Yes it would be incredibly awesome. It would make for a great future 30 for 30 called "Playing For Nothing." But realistically, until they get to 20 wins, its way premature.

IMHO the chances are slim and none. But it's gonna be fun.
Hopefully we get enough under our belt so that a loss doesn't sack us in the rankings.

What team have you been watching? This is a good team, but we almost lost to Yale and barely beat TCU and Brown....come one folks.

The fact they're asking the question at all is good enough for me.

The problem is, its a long season. What happens if Nick Moore misses Memphis, Tulsa, UConn or Cincy due to illness or injury? Or Tolbert and Kennedy, the same night? Or Ben Moore goes out for a few games. Its nice to dream. My fear is that once we have that first loss, others may follow because the balloon is busted. Win out would be a giant bird flipped at the NCAA.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

One...game...at...a...time. Win the day, every day, and let tomorrow take care of its self. Play for each other and success is the journey.

i just want it to go long enough to make the NCA squirm just a bit - winning out through the month of January would be great.
We will have out hands full in Vegas.

How would the NCAA squirm? They are blocking us from the tournament when we have our best team in years and are losing 3 seniors that are the nest players on the team. Seems like the NCAA is winning in the area of punishment. If they had given there sanctions when we had a team that wasn't going to the NCAA tournament or an NIT type team then it would not have been much of a punishment at all.

i think it hurts the NCAA to have the better teams not involved in their tournament. It taints the outcome.

I don't think they look at it that way or they would not have held what SMU did 30 years ago against SMU. I think they feel they are stopping a bunch of cheaters that are the worst cheaters in NCAA history that built a good team by cheating away from the other schools that did it the right way.
