Poor recruiting showing by BennettAre you kidding me....SMU only has two commitments so far? I thought Bennett was known for being a good recruiter? It does not appear the program is going places despite a five win season. I have noticed our competition is getting some pretty impressive Division 1-A transfer players. Where are SMUs? Oh, I forgot, SMU will not take their credit hours. Oh well. Maybe we can be competitive next season while we watch TCU, Tulsa, Houston, UTEP, etc. play in bowl games.
I was worried about our lack of committments until Bennett mentioned that there are only 13 scholies to give out. Considering we actually have three committments, 3 out of 13 scholies isn't that horrible. Especially when Juco signing day goes by and we pick up another couple of committs (Marcus Johnson/Joe Danna come on in)[/b]
OK. 13 scholarships. It is especially important to get quality then. How many top 100 area or top 100 state (as per the Rivals list posted on the DMN) does SMU have? Answer: None. My point is simple. SMU is getting its 'you know what' whipped in recruiting this year. I understand why. However, it does not bode well to get this team consistently winning and competiting in bowl games. I will trade our current commitments right now for Houston, Tulsa, UTEP, and TCU's in a New York minute. See my point.
I am waiting on JUCO signing day before I cry about this years class.
The QB we got went very far in State playoffs and Hutto ran behind the OL guy we have. Pretty good. They WANT to be at SMU. We may not sign 8 high school players this year. OK with me. I just want to win!! So Does PB. ![]() Mustang Militia: Fight the good fight"
BillyJoe, the only way we are going to suddenly start competeing this year in recruiting is to turn back the clock and start reliving the 80s. While I'm not against it, cause I want to win....I doubt most on this board or in the administration would approve.
Aside....my wife has a friend from high school that went to this really small liberal arts college in Florida, one of the things they offered her to entice her to go to school there in addition to a full scholarship was a laptop, substantial living stipend and programs that were funded that allowed the students to travel abroad (for study) during their breaks...if those types of enticements to academically gifted students are not frowned upon, why are similar enticements to athletes frowned upon? On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
We only have the 3 commitments? Oh my the sky is falling the sky is falling, I had no idea. We have known that there were only 3 for quite sometime now, we also have heard Bennett was after many JuCo's. At least Billy Joe finally returned to state the obvious to us. He seemed to disappear during the last 3 games of the season, foul weather fan. Get lost jerk-ass.
The "sunshiners' have spoken. Are you guys paid by Copeland and Bennett to post on this board? I do not apologize in stating the obvious. I am not satisfied with only 1 winning season and no bowl appearances in apporximately 15 years. You may be but that is why you are average in your life. You talk tough behind a keyboard when your arguments have absolutely no merit. Argue the facts pal and leave your tough talk for your other chat rooms. By the way, five wins in a season does not make a successful football program. Oh yeah, you boys better not get your hopes up on this JUCO thing. The last time I checked SMU is pretty stingy in accepting other school's credits, especially from JUCOs. TCU, UTEP, Tulsa, however, are not.
STEP 1: Draft a business Model which will allows you to compete in the marketplace
STEP 2: Hire the best qualified managers to implement the program STEP 3: Support your managers in order from them to find and attract the best qualified employees(ie recruits) STEP 4: Rely on your Mangers and employees to sell the Model to your customers Until the foundation is laid, you don't get the highest quality managers, you don't recruit the highest quality employees(ie recruits) and the customers do not buy into the Model you are trying to sell them especially after 16 years of lieing to them about your commitment to winning.
I am not a sunshiner. I too have been disapointed in the progress of the program. It is early. Phil and his brother are good recruiters, and we will get some good kids. It would be nice to be USC, but we are not. Willis to slot receiver!
Calm down, Billie Joe. You can't say for sure what this class is going to look like. As Stallion, Lotus and the rest on this site who follow recruiting closely have pointed out, there are a lot of teams with low commitment numbers at the moment. Fortunately, what matters is the list of commitments in February, not now. The UTs and USCs of the world basically filled their classes ages ago, and a lot of teams are just now starting to fill up their classes. Besides, with 13, 15, 17 (who knows?) to give this year there are fewer available spots, so management of those scholarships is even more vital this year. Stay away from sharp objects for a while, Billie Joe.
actually I think we should all remind billy joe that he needs to cut down the tracks and not across the street.

Am I happy with the class, not by a long-shot. We have known pretty well all year that we havent signed anyone yet, my point is more about the timing of your crying post. Does our model need to change, of course it does, now if JC signing day passes and we get no help then we are in it deep next year. Also I can talk tough away from the keyboard too, we can meet and discuss this anytime you want.
Way to backtrack Whitehelmet. Are you a politician? It is funny when a 'sunshiner' like you does not agree with a post based on facts he resorts to threats and name calling. There is an old saying 'do not write checks your rear cannot cash' Think about it for awhile. It applies to you. I hope you have knee pads because you have been on your knees too long sucking up to the administration and athletic department.
Billy Joe, I'd like you to meet the pot.....pot, I'd like you to meet the kettle Billy Joe....you are both black
