UNIVERSITY PARK -- Feeling blamed for SMU being banned from postseason play, star-crossed guard Keith Frazier has walked away.
The former McDonald's All-American from Kimball, coach Larry Brown's marquee signing, was averaging 11.9 points and 4.4 rebounds, figuring heavily in the No. 15 Mustangs (13-0) getting off to the best start in program history.
But the junior shooting guard has been struggling emotionally with issues regarding SMU's postseason ban and Brown's suspension, former Kimball coach Royce Johnson said. Brown and Frazier could not be reached for comment.
"He's been having a hard time dealing with the whole situation," Johnson said. "I just think he hit a boiling point.
"He's fine on grades. He and Larry didn't get into it. When they came down with the suspension, Keith felt like the city and everybody was pointing their finger at him as the one to blame."
