Re: Big 10 may force Big XII to expandThe problem with that # 1 vs # 2 conference championship model is that if those 2 teams end up splitting their season series, in any given year it could knock both of them out of the playoff series. What if OU had lost to TCU in a championship game this year? My guess is that Ohio State would have been given an opportunity to defend their title.
Re: Big 10 may force Big XII to expandI wonder if the other 4 P5's passed a rule requiring another P5 to have 12 schools whether that would pass anti-trust analysis. I doubt the 4 P5 conferences want to have that vote-they'd rather come to a compromise agreement. Its really none of their business how the Big 12 wants to operate-the present voting system takes lack of a conference championship into consideration

Re: Big 10 may force Big XII to expandIF they expand...then it's BYU at #1, Cinci at #2, and probably Temple at #3. BYU brings in guaranteed viewers, would allow ESPN to consolidate games and open them up likely to transitioning the Longhorn crapwork to a Big12 network. Cinci and/or Temple provide a natural game for WVU and are larger schools with the facilities to compete and TV markets...especially Temple.
Re: Big 10 may force Big XII to expand
The argument is that Texas schools are for UT's benefit. No school being mentioned would bring all that much additional money into the conference, so UT brings in a school to keep it's political hedgemony, financial benefits, and Texas-centric identity. Long term, schools like Cincy or UConn will have natural differences between them and could become a voting block outside of the Texas schools interest
Re: Big 10 may force Big XII to expandNo way in hell UT wants Houston in. BYU brings in money and viewers...you do know they have a TV deal right?!? UT didn't want Baylor or TCU in there...they sure don't want UH.

Re: Big 10 may force Big XII to expand
BYU is done. Forever G5.
Re: Big 10 may force Big XII to expand
BYU won't play on Sundays. Not a big deal in football...a huge deal in minor sports though
Re: Big 10 may force Big XII to expand
BYU would be football only.
Re: Big 10 may force Big XII to expand
Makes more sense
Re: Big 10 may force Big XII to expandI don't think UT wants anybody in. I think they are happy with where the conference is now.
But if the conference is to expand UT is going to want it on their terms. They are going to have to compete with somebody on the field, it's the administration where they don't want any competition. Houston, like Baylor and TCU, while smile and take their smaller check and keep the conference revolving around UT - THAT'S what Texas wants. If Houston continues to help keep Texas in charge, they'll do the deal.
Re: Big 10 may force Big XII to expandBYU has been available for twenty years now. If the Big XII wanted BYU, they'd be in by now.
Re: Big 10 may force Big XII to expand
Furthermore: 1) If UT wanted to be in the P12, B10, or SEC, they could have made that happen years ago. 2) Nobody wants OU without UT. Since OU cannot leave without OSU, they cannot leave unless someone like the ACC does something unexpected like add both of them. 3) Although BU and TCU have the best football programs right now, they know that chaos is not their friend. They will do anything to keep UT happy. 4) Without the B12, Tech's remote location and academics might make them a difficult sell to the AAC. The only way they stay in a "power" conference is to stick like glue to Texas. 5) Kansas, K-State, Iowa State - See Tech except they cannot grab Texas' coattails under any reasonable scenario. 6) WVU - they would love to move to the ACC or SEC. Although unlikely, it isn't impossible. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: Big 10 may force Big XII to expandCart being put way before the horse here.
The elephant in the room that no one in these conferences wants to talk about right now is how horrible these TV contracts are going to look in the next decade as the market will be flooded with cord cutters no longer willing to pay for satellite/cable channels they never use. Forbes estimates that by 2025 (prior to GOR expiring for ACC) that as any as 35-40% of content will be fully customized on a digital platform. How this will impact conference realignment no one truly knows right now. What seems very likely is that what was once perceived as the trump card in realignment (TV/ESPN) will be a much less important factor. Consumers will be able to buy individual games, follow individual teams, etc. instead of being force fed garbage. Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: Big 10 may force Big XII to expandThe link below is a discussion on this topic from one of the K-State forums:
http://www.scout.com/college/kansas-state/forums/2671-men-s-hoops/14452311-uconn-s-big-12-expansion-chatter K-State President, Kirk Schultz, and his wife Tweeted about visiting UConn and being hosted by their Prez...UConn is lobbying to be in the Big 12 which is no real news flash. Pony Up!
Re: Big 10 may force Big XII to expand
I am 100% sure that Uconn isn't on the list. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
