You guys pull scholarships?Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: You guys pull scholarships? It's any easy concept. Don't commit if you want to keep taking visits. Coaches have to keep their word as well if they want to have any kind of integrity with this type of policy. If the coaches want to have this type of policy and have kept their word, they should pull the offer to anyone who does not keep their word and visits after committing. It will pay off long term.
Re: You guys pull scholarships?Particularly at this position, where the offers go out VERY early - and everyone is depending on each other not to get screwed. We passed on several other QB's because Moore was committed - not only committed but texting and twitting others to join the Stang gang16. We upheld our end. If he goes to Memphis we need to make other plans.
Re: You guys pull scholarships? They go after kids that are committed to other schools like they went after Hicks when he was committed to UH and the RB from Nebraska that they flipped to SMU etc. But they do not want their kids visiting. Just seems a bit hypocritical imo.

Re: You guys pull scholarships?Memphis can have Moore if he's not going to stick to the rules Morris gave him.
Re: You guys pull scholarships? Not at all hypocritical. Not everyone has or wants that policy. If other coaches take the approach that they want a soft commit and will let the recruit keep visiting, then keep recruiting them. If a recruit has given a hard commit and is still sniffing around, buyer beware. Character counts.
Re: You guys pull scholarships?
At this late of a stage we don't have very many options. Now if it were 5 months ago... But whatever. #HammerDown
Re: You guys pull scholarships? Also, didn't UH change coaches after Hicks committed? I definitely think a kid has the right to look around again after a coaching change. Morris had to recruit one of the Scott twins again after our coaching change. I completely understood him reopening his recruiting after the change.
Re: You guys pull scholarships?
Exactly! This whole....'don't take other visits or we'll pull your offer'....crap, is nonsense. Absolutely will not work with the majority of today's athletes. Even more problematic if we're consistently going after higher quality guys with multiple P5 offers going forward. Even more ridiculous because we have zero leverage. People acting like SMU is Bama or something....and even Saban has no stupid rule like this. Not even sure if this 'rule' actually exists, but my guess is it will backfire big time, if it does.
Re: You guys pull scholarships? How is it "acting like 'Bama" to tell a recruit to hold off committing if they are not really ready?
Re: You guys pull scholarships?
That is true. I don't think there is anything wrong with either approach. Just different perspectives. I will say that from Morris's position it is as much about getting people committed to the entire program - strength, conditioning, mindset - as it is about the safety school thing. Buy in 100% because we are going to work you and put you to the test once you are here. We expect a high level of commitment while you are in the program, and we want that to start right now...
Re: You guys pull scholarships?Guess we're about to find out this weekend. 6 days and counting till signing day.

Re: You guys pull scholarships?I think some are a liiiitttle naïve if they think this will work if we get to TCU's level and are recruiting Top 100s. What TCU has done with their Class is hard to believe. Lost count at about 10 decommitments-but there they are-last time I looked ranked about 12th in the Country. Biggest scramble I've ever seen. The reason it won't work with Top 100 kids is that commitments are needed for early momentum. They have 10-20-30 offers-they will just tell Morris to [deleted] off. It worked for Mack Brown when he was the Big Dog-UNTIL it didn't any more. He dropped it too.
