I am not at all happy with our recruiting considering our last 3 wins and spanking the toads. What gives? Maybe Bennett needs to find a few Assistants who can hunt. I know how sensitive the Sunshiners are this time of year but battling Stephen F. for recruits is embarrassing.

You've got to be kidding me. Perhaps your end-of-the-year rush at work has got you too stressed. If there's one thing our staff can do, it's identify and recruit players. Relax.

How can you say Bennett can recruit? Recruit what? Bennett is missing out on every single local player he is going after. It is understandable to lose out to Texas, A&M, OU, etc. It is not understandable to lose out to Tulsa, La. Tech, TCU, UTEP, N. Texas and Houston, in your own backyard. Bennett is going for the strikeout record this recruiting year. It is not all his fault as you 'sunshiners' are seeing first hand what SMU's self-imposed policies can do to a program. Any way you want to spin it, it does not look good. You boys better stock up on the spirits for next season because it does not look good.

Good gosh.. can you say knee-jerk?

Nothing has happened yet. Is it cause for concern.. we'll know after today as far as JUCOs go.

But don't start flippin out just yet.. go drink another swig of egg nog.

I have no problem with Willis getting up and going for next year.. he's got a good head on him and comes from a simliar offense in Denton.

Would I like to see some big OL, DL or LB -hell yes! But let's not get everyone twisted at 10am okay?
What we obtain too cheap.. we esteem too lightly. It is persistence alone that gives everything its value.

Two freshman all-Americas (Jessie Henderson and DeMyron Martin)
Very clutch WR in Bobby Chase
Rising stars Adrian Haywood and Joe Sturdivant
Etc., etc.

Why do so many people struggle to understand why SMU is not able to fill it's class with 3 and 4 star recruits? Last time I looked we were "outside" the BCS looking in and we play our games in front of a couple thousand family and friends. And people wonder why we compete with I-AA programs for players? At least we have a nice (albeit empty on games days) facility in Ford.

This coaching staff is making slow but steady progress. Gotta make our alienated fans believe before higher quality players are going to.

Excellent post, Charleston -- couldn't agree more. The progress might be slower than we all would like, but it is real and it is steady.

And LakeHP, you'll find that if you agree with Billie Joe, you are in fact jerking the ol' knee.

I am not concerned about 3 and 4 star players-how about some frickin 2 star players?! As far as progress I think we had a better recruiting class at this time when we came of then 0-11 season. I sink alot of money into season tickets and Mustang Club and I have a right to be pi$$ed at what I see. Be glad you still have few fans that are here to be pi$$ed off. Copeland has run off so many. I have been watching this since the 89' game against Rice and just like you they said be patient.

ONCE AGAIN SLOWLY for those who are having difficulty understanding...tell us why a kid with offers from BCS schools or TCU for that matter should be an easy sell for the SMU coaching staff?

SMU...home of great game day atmosphere and 32,000 rabid fans packing Ford to support and appreciate your efforts. Pay no attention to that whiney bunch on that message board preaching doom and gloom and declaring that Copeland and this coaching staff is inept and must go.

Don't get me wrong...I will be the 1st to admit that SMU needs to relax it's admissions policies and allow our coaches to compete on an equal footing with others for recruits...but to say this staff is doing a horrible job in recruiting is ignoring the fact they aren't exactly competing on a level playing field
