I hope that Coach Tubbs has made a call to Dowell. He is a very talented player who be perfect at SMU and in C-USA. He's a very athletic small forward who was a 4 star coming out of Texas City (11th ranked small forward in the nation). Apparently, he became frustrated with his lack of playing time behind PJ Tucker, Mike Williams and Brad Buckman.
Dowell elects to transfer
AUSTIN, Texas -- University of Texas sophomore forward Dion Dowell has elected to transfer, head coach Rick Barnes announced today.
"Dion voiced concerns about his playing time now and in the future within our program, and he feels he'll have a better opportunity to make that happen at another school," Barnes said. "We wish Dion all the best in the future."
Dowell (6-6, 205) had played in three games this season and averaged 3.0 points and 2.3 rebounds in 15.3 minutes per contest. He missed seven games due to an injured right ankle sustained in practice on Nov. 18, but returned to play 14 minutes off the bench in Saturday's loss to Tennessee.
As a freshman in 2004-05, Dowell played in 19 games, making seven starts, and averaged 2.1 points and 1.4 rebounds in 10.4 minutes per contest.
