Rivals: Sean Flynn Commits to SJSU

I believe-I'm sure Stampede will correct me if I'm wrong-that this was the QB rumored to be the target of SMU. 6-4, 215 LA Harbor JC. Visited SMU 12/03. Claims offers from SMU and SJSU-but I'm not sure he was ever actually admitted to SMU after a provisional offer. Anybody care to comment on that one?

Yup. SMU liked him, but I gather he didn't have enough transferable hours. So I expect your analysis of a "provisional" offer is probably dead-on.

and I think a lot of times when Rivals mentions "offers" they mean provisional offers by the coaching staff. That's part of the changes made about 4 years ago to allow the coaching staff to get on kids earlier but I'd bet this happenens a lot more than we hear about especially with JUCOs and prep kids. Remember that scatback from Prep School whose "offer" mysteriously disappeared last year

And to be clear, most of us agree that is a huge friggin' problem that needs to be fixed. It severely limits the IA transfers and Juco transfers we can recruit.

I realize that SMU's transfer hours situation is a bit painful, but a school such as Harbor has a lot of experience w/ regional universities. Just look at where these kids end up from the cal jucos. I just wonder if the kid wanted to stay in ca. From ca. qb's, what about Alex Aispuro from long beach or the Schaeffer kid. Thoughts Stallion?

Obviously that is true, but that is the nature of recruiting. Kids choose different schools for different reasons. Some have good reasons and some have bad ones. I, personally, chose SMU for a bad reason; ultimately it was a good decision for me, but it was a bad reason in retrospect.

This is why it is so important to be able to recruit from the broadest pool possible. This is why SMU should not limit itself by refusing to accept certain transferred credits. SMU accepts junior college transfers all the time (ask admissions); it is just a pain in [deleted] when one of those juco's also wants to play a sport.

Also, more to my point is the fact that cal jucos have a lot of talent ripe for the picking. Yes, I may be dreaming about Schaeffer, but the reality is that after tenn. he went west, to sequoia, which is in visalia. You pony up, probably don't even know where that is. I do. (not that this really matters much) I also know that many of the jucos provide a lot of access to progams. Heck, what if we could get a Marcus Raines from pasadena cc? More big lb help right?

Gotta dream.

Good lord. As some know my head needs to be examined, but that is another matter. Raines was a dream from last year. I do spend some time back in so cal, and the other pasadena cc lb I was thinking of was Fred McNeil. He was a pretty solid player at loyola high (ca) and his pop played ball for the Vikings. I don't have rivals or anything else, just talk w/ folks back home in ca.
