nick.s wrote:As far as The Mob goes, the simple fact is that for it to be good, you need rowdy fans who are drinking (i.e. Fraternity and Sorority members). The athletic department needs to go back to the system used the first year, or just make it a bidding war for Mob tickets. The current system keeps out the fans you would want, because most of us don't have the time or desire to go to a bunch of random events to accumulate points. We simply have better things to be doing with our social life. Only way I was able to get Mob this year was by going to the random events, swiping in then promptly leaving. This accomplished nothing (still wasn't in attendance at the random events like the athletic department wants) and most people wouldn't put in this kind of effort. This is the same with my friends who also did this, and we are the only ones who are ever drinking in the section. Every one else is dead sober, and therefore, quite lame during the games.

So what you are saying is, irrespective of the current system of which you disapprove, you and your friends successfully worked around it, but the far majority of your contemporaries didn't bother and were outdone by non-drinking, non-social life having, non-participative passive observers?

I agree with some of what you're saying but I think some of your criticism is misplaced. Stan Gable would not allow his brothers to be out worked like that.

I guess we really are about to rehash this again.
Same thing I said last year -- I like the energy the groups of Greeks bring, but I don't feel bad for them if they can't work the system in their favor. They know how, but are too lazy to do so.

I would be fine with going back to the camping out system for groups of 3 or 4 games at a time. If you're willing to sit outside overnight to get tix then you won't go to the game and stand there like a zombie.

Sat in the seat for 10 seconds and said, "wow, this is actually a pretty good seat." Never have seen him since. Every year I complain to the ticket office begging to buy that seat and they don't do a thing about it.

As long as they get the $$ they don't care if someone sits in there or not.

I don't believe that is true. I reprinted my tickets once and those barcodes aren't linked to my account. I received a letter from SMU wondering why I didn't use my seats and asking to call them if I ever wasn't going to use them in the future. I know I sit in a premium, in demand section, but the fact is that they do care if the seats are filled or not.

If that is the case then good. But I would assume that is the modus operandi for any ticket sellers....product sold, revenue acknowledged....don't matter if it's a home or visiting fan. Good to know.

ECU students had a great organization. Three of them showed up early and distributed the props and signs then stayed after to clean up. It was impressive.

Yeah, but you cant actually expect any of these "groups" to take 5 minutes away from their busy social calendars to do something like that. They cant be bothered, nick.s and blackout just told us so.

Argue about the lack of efforts of people (greeks or otherwise) but it's not the point. The point is that our student section is a laughable joke ever since they changed the system. That's a fact and I've yet to see someone dispute it. Some goofy ace committee decided to put arbitrary barriers into getting entry into the Mob and you see the results. It's not working and after a few years it's safe to say it's not going to work. You have pretty much the tri lams and the omega mus of smu down there. And most of them look like they just took a dose of methadone. It's painful to watch and the butt of many jokes.

So are you gonna continue to [deleted] about the system whether it changes or not or are you gonna see to it that you figure out how to work the system to your advantage?

This system is not sacrosant. It was created arbitrarily with arbitrary rules that basically blocks out the more enthusiatic fans in exchange for a box of tools.

So to answer your question, yes I would like the system to change as I want the best environment for our team possible. And goofy [deleted] like this impedes that atmosphere and there is no reason for it whatsoever. Especially considering the fact that it's failing and its purpose. People are just swiping their cards and leaving the events. It's a fail in its attempt to get students to other athletic events and it's an incredible, embarrassing and visual fail with regards to our student section.

Does that answer your question? And yes...they could end this system end of season. Very easy.

Actually, no it doesn't answer my question. I asked if those of you who posture yourselves as the "better" fans (posturing with which I for the most part agree) are going to redouble your efforts, system or not, and get your assexs in the mob?

If say a state legislature makes it more impossible or difficult to conduct business as you otherwise would, do you complain and whine or do you man up and hire a better lobbyist than whomever introduced the unfriendly legislation and get stuff done?

The problem with the Mob is that they act like it's a tennis match. They're reactive to big plays instead of being loud the entire time. I don't know if they've been to other colleges' sporting events (like an LSU game in death valley), but they don't seem to be aware that they need to be the ones leading the crowd. Hell, I'm a grad student and barely know anyone in the section... this is my only year at SMU and I'm making the most of it since I went to a D-III school for undergrad. Sometimes I'm the only one yelling after a play, and I don't even drink at the games. We peaked at the Cincinnati game this year, it's been downhill at Moody since.
