A tip of the cap to....

Postby sadderbudweiser » Sun Feb 14, 2016 9:06 am

Last night's refs.

Do refs go in with a game plan?

Last night they let the teams play instead of calling ticky tack fouls.

Considering that both teams only go seven deep if that was the ref's game plan it was the right one.

Who wants to see a game like that decided by free throw attempts made by guys from the end of the becnch?

Yeah.... The calls favored the Zags a bit.

Sabonis' bone on Jarrey may have been flagrant. For sure that dude flopped on Marcus.

But what resulted was one of the best games ( from a spectator's perspective) all year.

Had more calls been made Sabonis would have sat with about ten minutes to go. But consider what a tightly called game might have done to both teams.

Thank you for that refs.

Completely agree. The game is so much better when it isn't constantly being interrupted. There have been refs at Moody this year that would have fouled both teams completely out.

Interesting perspective--I found myself yelling at the refs more than normal last night. Maybe it was that flagrant that just put me in the mood.

I did too. But in hindsight and while watching again This realization came to me.

Would I feel the same way had we lost?

 not sure!

Watched on TV so can't even begin to feel or see the details of calls one can see up close and personal. The elbow looked like he lead with it but was trying to harm anyone. Total flop on MK. Felt there wwas a bit more body checking than usual that wasn't called.

But both teams play incredibly well and neither the players or coaches seemed upset with the refs. That tells me something there.

In the end, it wasn't the refs (unlike against UCLA) that decided the game, it was the players and coaches and both teams played well and were coached well. A great game to watch.

I know I am old school but I don't like to see a lot of premeditated body contact.

Sibonis plays as if he is in the NBA already which permits an offensive big man to knock
the defender out of the way by consistently ramming into him and then stuffing the
ball. I never enjoyed Shaquille O'neal for that very reason. Sibonis should have fouled
out early in the 2nd half for that reason.

Other than that particular type of call, I agree that the refs, for the most part, called
a good game.

I think being on ESPN has something to do with it.
