UTEP hires ex-SMU, Hillcrest DB Derrius Bell as cornerbacks

Derrius Bell is back on the sidelines.

Bell, who played for SMU from 2007-2009, was hired by UTEP as its cornerbacks coach, the school announced this week.

Bell most recently served as the Mustangs defensive coordinator of quality control from 2013-2014.

Prior to being promoted to quality control, Bell was a graduate assistant under new UTEP and former SMU defensive coordinator Tom Mason.

During his playing career at SMU, Bell notched 66 tackles and two interceptions.

Prior to landing at SMU, Bell starred at defensive back for Dallas Hillcrest.
