I agree. Lance was exceptional and compares well as to what he did on the FB field and what Nic is doing on the BB court.

Lance was an exceptional college football player who was not considered an NFL prospect the way some of his teammates were because of his "measurables" and the fact that he did not project as anything close to a pro-style QB. Sound familiar?

Lance was the engine that drove the Pony Express. True, he was surrounded by great players. . . but when a big play needed to be made, Lance made it. See pass to Bobby Leach at end of 3rd quarter of 1983 Cotton Bowl. See also his run for a TD at the beginning of the 4th quarter. Sound familiar?

ED and Craig James were awesome. The defense on those teams was awesome. But it never really gelled until the Texas game in 1980 when McIlhenny replaced Mike Ford. So in that respect I would argue that Lance actually did make the players around him better. The announcers on SMU's televised games back in those days used to constantly say about Lance that "all he does is win". They would talk about how he was too short, didn't have a pro arm, etc. He just made big play after big play. They loved him.

That is my case for the comparison. We won't see Nic in the NBA (I don't think). But he will forever be an SMU legend, just like Lance.

Time to celebrate a great modern day player who has been a huge part of the success in putting SMU hoops in the national spotlight.
