The MOB needs leadership. The first year we had unofficial leadership, since then, it's been missing and it shows in the games.

Yesterday's game reminded me of the typical students, both groups in the endzone's had students sitting down the second half! Thu crowd will be different, the student section will be packed (they will show up late as usual), it will be loud - you will still have some empty seats in the red section and people will start to leave early even if it's a tight game! UConn will draw a crowd, they are name recognition.

The culture can change, but it's going to take more than what we've seen so far, both by the students and the university. And it's going to take more than just a few years of winning.

I would call out this guy - if you think that he is not fulfilling the shoes of his predecessor.

Send him your thoughts before UCONN...maybe he can call out the student body.

The real issue is that this game was at 2 pm on a Sunday. I know this is test week for Grad students so could be for undergrad as well. It is natural for college students to push things off till the last minute so on Sundays they have to be in the library. I could be wrong but I don't see Kentucky, Duke, other big fan base schools playing many Sundays. And if they do, what is their attendance like? Bet its not great.

Excuses: don't we have a number chart for such?

The real issue is that we changed the method by which the Mob gets tickets. Period. Go back to the old way and the rabid kids will show up for every game. Standing in line for bball tickets raises the commitment level. Going to volleyball games just leads to schedule exhaustion.

This is the emptiest excuse I've ever heard. It's two hours. Get less drunk on Saturday night and wake up 2 hours earlier on Sunday to get studying done.

Smulaw90 wrote:I'm somewhat befuddled by the real lack of engagement by the students. For years I said, "they have too many options in Dallas", unlike say, Waco. Then I thought, well it's probably the type of students that attend SMU. Many of them come from environments where attending a basketball game, just isn't really that big of a deal.

So to me I'm going to lay this on the administration. Administation needs to convey a message through all media that essentially says, "do you want your degree to have more value? Then SMU needs you. Greater attendance means a better atmosphere. A better atmosphere attracts better athletes. Better athletes put SMU on ESPN and gives the school additional notoriety. Better name recognition means your degree carries name recognition throughout the US. After all, Duke wasn't always Duke. Nor was Uconn. Georgetown. Yet people know of those schools in part, because of their athletic success.

All of these things in turn, bring $$ to the school, which is then used to add additional programs, facilities etc.

There has to be an attitude of "no matter what, I'm going to the SMU game." I see the same adults over and over. We've committed ourselves. Students, now it's your turn. At a minimum, kick some arse on Thursday. Then show up next year!

always wondered how we could be so much unlike the Dookies; maybe after years and years of success and a National Championship we will develop a more fanatical following?

Move back to the camp out system for the games and I think it fixes a decent amount of the issues. You're less likely to skip two or three games (however many you would get in a block for that campout) if you spent all night outside.
I know the last two games aren't marquee matchups, but the support has been disappointing.
