Future AAC tournament sites

Postby LA_Mustang » Thu Mar 10, 2016 1:42 pm

The commish said it will be in Hartford next season and back in Orlando in 2018. Seems really strange to repeat sites this soon. Maybe no other cities stepped up but IMO Dallas, Houston, NOLA and Philly are all better options.

Only schools to bid were UCONN and UCF

SMU will not bid

Why not? Dallas would be a great location.

Seems like a missed opportunity to create a home court advantage.
Plus the AAC at the AAC has a nice ring to it.

Talk about an empty venue. Our fans won't go to other games and Dallas isn't a vacation destination

Hartford was empty for non UCONN games.
I would be surprised if there are large crowds in Orlando.
It's not about what's best for the conference - I'm thinking what's best for us. :) #AACatAAC

Tulane needs to step up and make a bid.

It costs SMU to host so not money well spent

Interesting 94 - I would've thought the costs would be absorbed from a visitors/convention bureau type entity and not the school.
And yes untitled -- NOLA would be awesome.

What do you have to guarantee to make a bid? Seems like Houston or SMU could bid their pro arenas. I presume Cinci isn't allowed to host at its home court and doesn't have other good options. Memphis used to host CUSA tourneys.

I wouldn't be upset if it was in NOLA every year.

Just passing on what someone said - basically we aren't interested in hosting.

Guess the tourney doesn't move the needle for the Dallas Visitors Bureau

Memphis hosted the first one. It was awesome except for the loss to UH. But if they aren't willing to bid again I think that tells you something. It's a total loser.

Yeah everyone is too spread out for all of the fan bases to converge on a site (SWC for Reunion Arena, Big East for MSG).
I would guess the Orlando tourism folks are throwing some money at the AAC for hosting.

Orlando is fine. Cheap, easy to get to, golfing options, etc. Just not really worth it this year!
