The last time they won a conference championship was 1950. Drew probably took what many considered at the time the worst P5 basketball job in the country (Northwestern was probably just as bad at the time).
With the right hire TCU could become competitive in the Big 12.
I understand that, but Scott Drew was not a "big name" hire when he took the Baylor job. With 1 year of HC experience (at Valpo), the Baylor job was a step up for him. If they want to hire someone like the UTA guy, they can probably get him (or someone like him) and it may (or may not) turn into a great hire. I simply don't believe that guys like Buzz Williams and Bruce Pearl are going leave their current jobs to take the TCU job. A great hire is probably going to be a young coach looking to step up from a lower level position.

True, and I agree with that. The only way they will get a name is to break the bank, but I believe a good coach can win at TCU. It happened at SMU and no one thought that was possible. It was dumb luck on our part and probably what saved our entire athletic department.

I know Buzz loves Texas, but he just put together a 20 win season at Tech and is starting to build something at what has long been an ACC doormat. I don't see him leaving one incredibly difficult situation that he's moving the ball at to another incredibly difficult situation to start all over.

I still think it was a money ploy

And then once other coaches saw how open our then-AD was to helping them get raises...

I had a really really good in on the Buzz situation. One of my coaching buddies was best man in his wedding and vice versa. He wanted the SMU position, but my coaching friend spent many years on smu's bench and was very detailed w/Buzz about the difficulties the program faced. Buzz had a laundry list of things he needed assurance on, just to be competitive. At the end of the day, we guaranteed much of what he wanted, but there was no post DP history to prove we'd actually follow through. He was worried about everything and wanted to believe, just couldn't bring himself to it. He would have been a blockbuster hire but different than LB.
That search was an orsini [deleted]. I'm not sure any school has been turned down more.ms many public denials of interest. The way we treated Chris Collins was crazy. Anyway, when LB hangs it up, provided Buzz is still not in Texas or okie st, I'd sure as hell approach him again, before hiring Jank. F
TCU can be damn competitive w/the right guy. If I were them, I may take a different tact. See Dan Majerle at Grand Canyon. Give him a staff and roll. It's profile and affordable

Do you think Buzz would have gotten it turned around as fast as LB did?

Probably not as fast as LB, but doubt we would have run around so gaudy and rogue first few years, either
