Jamie Dixon to TCU

TCU officials have zeroed in on Jamie Dixon to fill its coaching vacancy, and the Pittsburgh coach is now considering what amounts to an offer, a source told CBS Sports.

Dixon has a lucrative and longterm contract with Pittsburgh. But, a source said, TCU is willing to "make the money right" in the sense that Dixon is not being asked to take less to move from the ACC to the Big 12. It's just a matter of whether he wants to stay put for a 14th season at Pittsburgh or get a fresh start at his alma mater, according to a source.

He's won in the Big East, but he's getting out front of the mob in the ACC. Not an elite recruiter, low scoring, bump and grind style etc. they'd be improved, just not sure they actually get too far over the hump

I have a hard time believing TCU makes the same mistake twice by hiring a guy making a lateral move a year before he gets fired. They just fired that same guy.

But I guess that's exactly what they are about to do.

Dixon is from Southern California and has been mentioned as a candidate at USC and UCLA when those schools had openings. Don't know his thoughts about TCU, but they must be strong enough for him to take a step down.

Dixon would be a grand slam hire for TCU. Trent Johnson was a [deleted] coach but he recruited some decent talent, I think Dixon could do well there quickly

Cronin to Vegas or Dixon to Fort Worth? Does either actually happen? I'd be surprised.

Having grown up in FW and still having many friends and family there, TCU has had this weird view of its basketball program for ever. They seem to have this view the job is something that it isn't. It is a pretty good college coaching job. There are 351 division 1 HC jobs and TCU is better than somewhere between 250-300 of them. But it isn't a job people dream of having, nor is it a sleeping giant. TCU fans seem to think it is both (and they have for years and years).

You must hang out with the most delusional TCU fans on earth because almost everyone in Fort Worth has a much more reasonable assessment of the TCU program than what you describe... that it is one of the worst power 5 basketball programs in the country, no one's "dream" job and as far as being a sleeping giant... I consider it more like a sleeping dwarf... perhaps the right coach can wake-up the sleeping dwarf so that we can make the NIT every once and a while.

Having said this, the school has made an investment in the facilities and the right coach can make it better.

Has TCU ever been good at basketball? Did they have a golden age that I missed?
- From what I recall, they spent years fighting with Rice for the worst BB team in the sWc.
- The only "interesting" time period was when Billy Tubbs was the coach.

If Baylor can win I see no reason for TCU not to be able to win big.
