Re: Track Results By SMU RecruitsWe've got about 5 kids that have a Top 25 performance in Texas in their event this year-probably could have had another if Joshua Shelmire had run track this year. We have another running on a Top 4 Relay Team in 4A. If you are on a Top 10 Relay team at a school like Cedar Hill you can scoot-got it? Few of these top Track kids actually play Football and even fewer are top football prospects. I'd rather them run track and improve than sit on their [deleted] all spring. They are getting faster and stronger. Big receivers like Brandon Benson and Shelmire are unlikely to be world class sprinters but that's doesn't mean they can't be outstanding Football Players. I think both are faster than Courtland Sutton who usually out-muscles the opponent rather than outruns them

Re: Track Results By SMU RecruitsI just want to have guys who can prevent people like Vad Lee from making us look like the 3 stooges. I await the hate but under june we had margus world jr record holder, aldrick who ran 10.4 at texas relays, etc.
Forgive me if I don't get excited when we get jimmy jets who made the relay team at desoto.
Re: Track Results By SMU Recruits
Aldrick Robinson was a Phil Bennett recruit and Margus and Wolman approached JJ so you cant give him credit for either of those
Re: Track Results By SMU RecruitsI don't care if the lunch lady recruited them. They were on the team that's all that matters.
Re: Track Results By SMU RecruitsKen McLaurin finished 2nd in the Area 6A Shot Put Finals with a throw of 55'7.25-about a foot off his personal best but he should qualify for the Regionals
http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/M ... 79637#5181 In the Western Area 6A Finals Patrick Jones also finished 2nd in the Spot Put with a better throw of 55'8.50 which was his personal best. He too should qualify for the Regionals http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/M ... 79681#4892 I see a pattern here-In 5A Area Meet out west, Ryan Becker finished second in both the Shot Put and Discus with throws of 46'0" (easily personal best by about 3 feet) and 154'11". Becker is still a skinny developing kid so he isn't at the DFW level http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/A ... 523804#/L0 "With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris

Re: Track Results By SMU RecruitsWow 5th straight 2nd place finish in various Area meets
2017 SMU commit Tyquez Hampton ran a 21.87 in the 200 Meters in the El Paso Area 6A Track Meet. That's going to be about the 38th best time in Texas this year. Team also finished 1st in 4x100 Meters with time of 41.48 which is the 22nd best time in Texas this year-Tyquez runs the anchor leg. Earlier in the year he ran a 10.90 in the 100 Meters which is good for a big guy http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/A ... 025647#/L0 "With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris

Re: Track Results By SMU RecruitsI hadn't previously noticed but Ryan Becker finished 3rd in the Discus at the 5A Texas State Championships in 2015 as a Junior with a throw of 164'10 " Pretty good for a pretty thin OLM/TE. I guess his mobility is an asset in that event. That was the 30th best Discus in 2015 in Texas (all Classifications)

Re: Track Results By SMU RecruitsFuture looks bright for the SMU men's track team!
Re: Track Results By SMU RecruitsEric Sutton and Cedar Hill are out of the running for state in the 4x100 Relay because they had a disqualification issue last week at Area Meet. Still has about the 8th fastest time this year in Texas

Re: Track Results By SMU RecruitsKen McLaurin "threw" his personal best of 57'1.5" today in the 6A Regional Finals. Not sure if this is final yet but his throw has him in 3rd Place only about 1.25" behind the leader. I think 3rd Place finishers move on to State but not exactly sure. Looks Final now

Re: Track Results By SMU RecruitsTop 2 go plus wildcard best of the rest from the 4 regions (9total). In other words Ken won't make it as some guy got 3rd at 59' in another region today. Great performance but texas 6a is a [deleted]

Re: Track Results By SMU RecruitsWaiting on Patrick Jones in the 5A Region I Shot Put-but here's a picture of him medaling at the Area Meet. He's got some good size on him-bigger than I thought-wearing a Mustang hat too
