True about UT - but not A&M - A&M is no harder to get into then SMU. he percentage of their classes made up of the 10%'ers is much smaller then UT's and therfore not as much of a factor.

Unfortunately, the 10% rule is diluting the quality of students @ UT. Recent reports out of Austin (since the 10 % rule was put in place) show there are more UT undergrads "behind plan" than at anytime in recent years.

I would suspect that the 10% rule actually hurt minority graduation as well. Most of these inner city kids are not prepared for a real university - they should be going to community college or lower level universities and graduating, not going to UT and flunking out.

2010 - sorry but thats just not true - compare the incoming stats of the freshman classes of UT and A&M (dont care about either one - just pointing this out). A&M does have 10% rule but not nearly as much of their class is made up of the ten percent'ers - leaving lots more room for others - which makes A&M far easier to get in then UT - and no harder then SMU.

Yeah Stallion - obviously tuition being what it is, that would be one of the hurdles to choosing SMU. However a very large percentage of the student body is on some kind of financial aid.

If your application is good enough you can go to SMU for the same or less cost than the State schools, I did. It is a better education due to the smaller class size and you actually get to talk to professors not foreign grad students who cant speak english, much less teach in it.
