"one of the country's elite junior college prospects" + (SMU, Troy, New Mexico) offers = something doesn't add up.

he was a 4 star out of high school that just transferred to JUCO but hasn't played yet. Originally committed to Texas Tech then enrolled at Wisconsin as an early enrollee

Remember, send all troll complaints to Hart from now on. He has outed himself as your troll mole. :P

Back to the subject. Why is it that a previous 4 star commit, that is touted as 'one of the country's elite junior college prospects', only has offers from SMU, Troy, and New Mexico?

Seriously, enlighten us?

1) Coaches usually aren't thrilled with a QB that switches from one school to another and transfers out the first year. They want more from a QB.
2) A QB with no playing experience and only two years left isn't going to get a good look by many schools, regardless of high school rating. See Davis, Matt.
3) There are SEC schools showing interest. He is going to be a fall-back option for a lot of schools, so that offer list is going to rise significantly as other QBs fall off the board and he starts playing in the fall.

I'd say its almost identical to the Matt Davis situation-early enrollee at P5 school who didn't get a chance to play and schools want to see him in a JUCO game before they offer. Davis was unimpressive in JUCO ball and June still offered. Nobody else did. Cam Newton on the other hand was the No. 1 JUCO recruit in the Country after leading team to JUCO National Championship. I bet a lot of schools will watch his development-SMU was on him first and working him hard. Early commits from unproven JUCOs are more rare in comparison to say a player who has actually proven himself at BCS or even JUCO level

Remind me why he left Wisconsin: I seem to remember a coaching change had something to do with it.

Gillins signed with Wisconsin and then head coach Gary Andersen, but when he left to take the job at Oregon State, Gillins started to feel like the other shoe was going to fall.
"I just didn't feel comfortable with the new staff and I didn't feel like I was going to get a fair shot to play quarterback, so I started to make some calls and Pearl River seemed like the best place to be," Gillins recalled.
