UH Regent: Texas "scared" of inviting Houston to B12

This probably isn't the kind of thing you should be saying if you're actively and seriously trying to get a Big 12 invite.
Also, wasn't Tilman Fertitta in the mob or something? Houston is so trashy.

What a joke. Crappy school that has too many students. Easy to have a larger alumni base when you have too many students and not enough resources. Yawn.

Tilman Fertitta? Not Hispanic... Owns a lot more than restaurants.
People on here have so much hate for UH when the sad thing is they are in a much better position than we are.

Very unlikely for either SMU or UH to get the big 12 invite. The football players (AD's etc.) of the Big 12 see no reason to keep splitting the recruiting and corporate pie, and the TV stations don't think either teams adds much in the way of new TV sets.
Our best bet is to band together to offer a Texas entry for Pac or ACC. Problem is SMU is small and is currently not on the scene in football - and UH is a terrible school so the presidents in those conferences (so still have some sway in this) are not fans of that addition. Doesn't mean they might ultimately overlook the deficiencies of both of us to pick up a new market - it just means we have some work to do.
No need to talk with the Big12 - that is a waste of time for both of us.
And Houston the city does suck.

modified ACC when FSU/Miami bolts may be our only current landing place in the P5...not into the "pit of doom" mode yet, but as it stands now, we have missed yet another boat.

That won't be a power conference anymore.

I'm sure this is totally ineffective in moving the needle in a positive direction for UH, probably even harmful. That being said, every now and again I would love it if someone stood up and shouted about how great SMU is.

I wish we had a couple of billionaire alums with his passion and goals, instead ours are planning their next trip to Newport or Palm Springs or the Hamptons or the cocktail reception at Gerald's home.
