It will be interesting to see what the next couple of months bring. We could see Baylor give all players a release and go out and bring in a brand new interim staff of folks that have a connection to Grobe and are out of coaching, just to clean house and effectively deal itself the death penalty.

Huh.

Good hire. I knew they'd never be able to land a sitting head coach, at least not one on the FBS level, especially this close to the season, but Grobe makes sense. Squeaky clean, had some success at a small private school, and a Baptist one at that.
It appears Baylor's strategy, at least from a football standpoint, is to try to salvage the 2016 season, hang on to whatever recruits they can, and hope the staff can hold them together.

I'm wondering if Grobe sees this as some sort of mission, kinda like McCartney did when he looked at SMU. The 'interim' tag is the interesting part.

Lessee he-yuh!

Dateline: December 31, 2016 Akron, OH

After an 11-2 season including a crushing 56-0 shutout of Georgia Southern in the Go Daddy Bowl, Baylor today announced the hire of Terry Bowden as its new head football coach.

"We absolve Coach Bowden of any past sins at Auburn, alleged or otherwise, as we welcome him as Baylor's new head football coach", said SBC Chairman Adrian Rogers. Besides, we need someone who can turn this program quickly after the embarrassing 42-10 shellacking the Bears suffered at the hands of the SMU Mustangs last season. ........................

"Acting" head football coach.

Also if Grobe keeps the offensive and defensive coaches intact Baylor will have a powerful team this season imo.

There is enough dirt that will come out against the entire staff through that report that he won't be able to keep the coaching staff together. Most, if not all, will be let go. He is going to have several players choose to sit out the season, waiting for permission to transfer and at least 10 2016 recruits will never make it on campus.

Baylor AD resigned this morning. He brought in Grobe and walked out the door.

AD should have been fired the same time as Briles.

You are very, very right. I don't think he is the only one who should fired. I think there is a very long string of administrators on campus who should be packing their office right now. I think that when his only immediate choice was PB, the Board wanted to have someone providing oversight. Given all that has been reported about Grobe's character in the past 24 hours, it will be Grobe's job to be the moral compass.

While I got the gist of the humor and sarcasm, a coupla' notes:

1) Adrian Rogers has been in heaven for a while now...

2) He hasn't been President of the SBC since 1988...

3) If, and it is a BIG IF, SMU keel-hauls Baylor 42-10, Stallion and I will dance in the fountain...I'll let him lead...

That might be what you are hoping for regarding the coaches but that has yet to happen and I don't believe anyone has seen the entire report. So I don't know where you are getting that information from. As far as you predicting players sitting, since most of your predictions are wrong we'll see what happens regarding that.

And that could be a "problem" for Baylor.
Baylor will mostly still have great players this season.
Players angry..."us against the world" mentality
Baylor is going to win games.
Yes not as many wins, but still they've got talent & could be very respectable.

So what's going to happen?
Baylor will win games...be in the Top 25....maybe higher?

And you can bet the ranch there will be a significant contingent of Baylor fans and media at the end of this coming season saying:

"hey we won 8-9 games...let's give Grobe a long term contract...why take a another chance on a 3rd coach in 3 seasons?....lets sign Grobe...and let the man recruit".

I think we all know Grobe is not the long term solution to Baylor being where they really want to be, but Grobe may end up being kept around because he wins some games and will be the "safe choice" as Rome slowly burns....recruiting slowly deteriorates and Baylor slowly slides towards 7 win seasons.

I am not saying Grobe is a mistake....Grobe is the 9-1-1 call...3 months out from season...Grobe is an emergency EMT....

The key to Baylor's future is what they do with Grobe after next season...play it safe and "hide" behind Briles players? or get someone much better?

Baylor is at it's core a conservative entity and if Grobe wins some games
It certainly not going to be an easy either way they choose to go...
and lots of second guessing will happen.

Keel-haul?!? You had me from hello!

FWIW, keel-hauling is to good for Baylor. Some have survived that punishment.

Supposedly they also fired multiple mid to low level staffers in both the adminstraion and athletic dept., but I haven't seen those names yet.
