well as I said McCann just got elevated from 5.2 to 5.5 not 5.3 (see my post bumped from a month ago). The Area Top 100 is supposed to be a static team picked at the start of the year and generally stays the same although there might be some slight modifications. The Rivals star system varies based upon recruiting interest offers and analysis by their agents during the recruiting season. Anyway McCann's present 5.5 rating would place him somewhere near the AREA TOP 60 or so.

For what it's worth, I just looked at a link of last year's DFW Area top 100, and the lowest-rated three-star, 5.5 guy (athlete Eric Childes of Irving MacArthur) was ranked No. 39.

I don't see it as a big surprise that Coach Graham already got his first commitment. Even if Novak hadn't been listing Rice, that doesn't mean they weren't recruiting him, just that HE hadn't been considering THEM. Maybe he didn't list them because he didn't think he could get in, or something. And if he already had built a relationship with Coach Graham (who I assume recruited Harrell for Tulsa), once Graham got to Rice -- a fantastic school -- I can see why Novak pulled the trigger so quickly. I know if I had been offered a scholarship to a school as good as Rice, my parents would have shot me if I didn't snap it up in a second. Coach Graham getting a quick commitment is not a surprise at all. It's like being surprised that Coach Spurrier called a pass play in the first half of a game -- it's what he does.

Novak's commitment to Rice was also in the DMN today.

Right. The DMN gets recruiting commitments from rivals. If one reports it, the other will, too.

Interesting perspective: So far Graham(41) has picked assistant coaches who are (31), (27) and (26) years old. Obviously, it appears they going "young" for recruiting purposes. It ought to be interesting to see how this works out.

They should recruit very well -- Graham is a recruiting machine, and aren't the assistants he snatched viewed similarly? The only hangup is getting guys in at Rice.
