Re: The Story of SMU BaseballUnless and until Title IX changes, or we get a P5 invite, I don't see baseball coming back to SMU absent someone with a big bank wad and a desire to see it back. My estimate would be that to field a competitive baseball team would require an endowment of $40-50 Million (field, staff, scholarships for baseball and 1.5 women's sports). Or you'd have to pick whether to dump, men's swimming, tennis, or golf, plus soccer.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: The Story of SMU BaseballI wish we had baseball. We have a too many bougie sports.
Re: The Story of SMU BaseballAs long as Title IX exists, we are stuck with what we have. Again, which men's sport(s) do you want to cut to add baseball? Golf, Tennis, swimming, soccer, football or basketball?

Re: The Story of SMU BaseballAs fans, we also say we want baseball, but in my years, we never drew flies. It's less about Title IX and more about it being a costly venture that had limited appeal at SMU. You'd have to add an on campus stadium, which can't be used for any other sport at a time when everyone says an IPF is what is needed. Time to move on...
Re: The Story of SMU Baseball
Agreed Boston Pony, but I wonder what affect the Texas Rangers has had. Have they made baseball more attractive to fans or have they locked up the baseball fan from Dallas, TX? You and I would follow both but what about the average Dallas fan?
Re: The Story of SMU Baseball
Plus, College Baseball has become significantly more popular - particularly in Texas. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: The Story of SMU Baseball
That's great that means it's in fourth or fifth place behind women's basketball
Re: The Story of SMU BaseballBaseball is so popular that they rescheduled the Cinderella college world series final for Thursday at 1pm.
Re: The Story of SMU Baseball
1) Football 2) MBB What do you think is 3rd? In terms of attendance, I would think that Baseball is approaching (if not exceeding) WBB at many schools that play at a high level. TCU, Rice, Texas, Baylor Tech, and even Tulane all have nice sized stadiums and draw decent crowds from time to time. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
The Story of SMU BaseballCan't even come close to funding an IPF and people want to add a new sport
Re: The Story of SMU Baseball

Re: The Story of SMU Baseball1. IPF
