I love LB, always have been and always will be a fan of his. I tip my hat to him for what he did and accomplished at SMU .... and at the speed of sound. But, if anyone really thought LB would not, and has never walked comfortably in that grey area, is not paying attention to his career. Not saying this had anything to do with his announcement. LB was the right guy for the job at the right time, and still has millage left on his tires.

We all knew the day was coming that he would step down and turn over the rains to the pre-determined (Day 1) coach in waiting ... Jank. From day 1 of LB's arrival, speculation was he would be here 3-4 years, that day has arrived. No doubt we envisioned a better (smoother) moment of transition. Jank was not going to wait for ever, not saying that had anything to do with it .... after all, SMU offered a 3yr extension. I would have not offered anymore either. There should be NO panic with Jank, he was the chosen successor from day one. He proved himself this past season, SMU did not skip a beat ... and demolished a good Gonzaga team in the process. Is that not what should happen if the guy in waiting is the right guy? Makes no diff if it was LB's team, and saying that assumes Jank had nothing to do with the success, which is wrong. I think SMU B-Ball will keep climbing and not look back. Because of what LB did and the foundation he built ... with the help of others (Jank). To some level, I think this helps recruiting. As a 18-19 year old, you have to wounder if a 76/77 year old coach is really going to be there to the end with you.

So, sad day we knew was coming sooner rather than later ... better circumstances would have been nicer. All the love and props to LB ... he did exactly what we hoped he would results wise .... may be bent a few rules along the way (welcome to the club) .... but, SMU will not skip a beat IMO.

OTP may have a point. With those types of things in the contract it looks like they were trying to show him the door.

And if the DMN says it, it must be true...

I'm no Optimist but I really believe the future is still bright for SMU Basketball.

And if it crashes and there ends up being 243 people at games including the band and cheerleaders. I'll slip back down in the front row of those $10,000 Seats.

those games on the floor were an awesome collegiate experience.

Well then, I guess you are saying the opposite must be true. I guess you have inside information.

I remember that first UConn game down there in the floor seats what an awesome collegiate experience

I think the next couple of years will be fine.

This sucks. If Larry Brown asks for a 5 year extension, you give him the 5 year extension. Why are you all so concerned about Jank? Let him walk - it shouldn't be hard to hire a good HCIW at that salary.

Hart's press release: 10/10. I was wondering if we would get roasted for releasing this info today, but most sites are just slamming LB.

@BillyEmbody 25m25 minutes ago @PonyUpSports I don't know who their source is, but I also have sources on both sides & the pay cut part is ludicrous.

-----------------

@BillyEmbody 25m25 minutes ago @PonyUpSports It wasn't guaranteed if he failed to meet APR/graduation requirements. Not unreasonable. He left off the but on that.

While he did not win an NCAA tournament game at SMU he made us relevant in just 4 seasons. For the record I don't think Jank has won an NCAA tournament either. Has Jank ever taken an NCAA team to the tournament as a head coach? I do think LB left him with some good players. Now after those players are gone will see if Jank can reload effectively.

Jank's Illinois State team made the tourney Nic's FR year and most people were surprised he would leave for SMU given the team he had coming back. He will do fine and assuming we have a strong 2016-2017 season, I just hope we can lock him down to a long term deal.
