Often, I'll stare at my phone and wonder to myself..."self, why don't you push that Tapatalk button and read ponyfans?" And my self, that internal voice of honesty at any moment, usually replies (in Morgan Freeman's voice, for some odd but comforting reason) "there is enough stupid in this world to deal with without actively searching it out...[deleted]."
Well, we hit that stupid level again. Same trajectory as Baylor football? That is bordering on a new low in the thought section, but a new high in the comatose drool category. Larry was offered a good contact with acceptive terms. He's old, his program has been very successful but has also been dogged by academic issues and his inability to grasp the importance of the APR metric can not be underestimated. He was closer to the end than he wanted to admit, and was likely looking for a farewell contact that gave him a big ego pat before departing after one or two years and leaving us without a coach. His timing is despicable. The optics are terrible. This is pure Larry. Could we fall apart? Yes. Will we? No. We have the team and the staff to play exciting ball and get some exciting talent in here.
So let's lay off the "Larry is Messiah and Turner's sulfur stench drove away our golden goose" crap and support Jank and the team. [deleted], they seem to be handling this well and we don't have to worry about and Keith or Markus tweet storms of unintelligible complaints. Kids will do great and we will continue to improve.

I wonder if some SMU fans are going to turn on Coach Morris when he leaves like some are turning on LB.

Most people, including me, are just pissed about the timing and freaking out about the possibility of further sanctions. If no players leave and there aren't additional sanctions, Larry will be looked at just fine. If Morris leaves us in a better place and then takes a great job, everyone will be just fine with that as well. June took us to bowls and then quit on the team. That is unforgivable and will never be welcomed back.

This! I love LB. I feel like the college game (managing programs) is not his thing. LB is being called selfish and I understand why. However, I will also remember him as the guy who brought coffee and donuts to the mob line.

Yeah but only the ones that think Morris is going to be our Patterson. The rest of us will say thanks and move on.

Haha, keep telling yourself everything will be just fine. There are plenty of Baylor fans saying the same delusional nonsense.

Yeah, and keep telling yourself that Turner kicked Brown to the curb, and everything is just fine, and maybe even better off without him. Talk about comatose drool.

Larry Brown WAS SMU BASKETBALL. Without him the last 4 years never happens. Must have walked away shaking his head.

Go back to staring at your phone.

Here is what smu was looking to avoid in negotiations... A departure like this, which happened at another program close to yours truly, with a coach who had a much better run at the school than LB did at SMU: http://lubbockonline.com/news/101797/LQ2663.htm

I have no problem with Larry stepping down. I have a problem with it going down now instead of at the end of last season. Family over everything? Apparently not.

David Miller and Smu didn't drop millions on Moody to bring this program back to life for only three good years and no tourney wins. I love LB and wish it didn't happen like this when he did ultimately leave but that's what Jank is here for. It's Janks time and now that the school, students / alumni, and boosters have tasted success and been so invested, expectations are high. Im confident the program will not be allowed to slip back into obscurity and expect that Jank will have intense pressure to continue to win and also run a clean program... Both are good things

Lol, he buried himself with Kapita and Bruno. He didn't listen or learn a thing. It's funny hearing folks say we'll never recruit the same again, when in reality, we don't want to. 3 of our last 6 signings couldn't qualify or get in. We can't keep anyone eligible, don't graduate that many, flirt w APR disaster but play solid ball. LBs was not a model that was sustainable at SMU and the admin knew it. I'm the last guy to side w admin over a brown, but his actions around Kapita were beyond dumb. He has no interest in college ball, just coaching ball.

Jank needs to alter the staff a bit and w/all the money saved from not chartering on a days notice, to see a kid we'll never get, we can hire another sniper. Maybe keep Hobbie, maybe not. Either way, move Duncs up and roll. Recruiting is about staff, wins and style more than head man. Speed up the pace, run for heavens sake, jack up some 3s. Jacks style fits our current personnel far better than LBs inside out, no matter what, style.

No doubt. I get bashed for not bashing June Jones, but the truth is that I am thankful to most of our coaches for whatever it is they bring to SMU. Matt Doherty left Larry Brown with some good pieces, which he built on. Now hopefully Jankovich can elevate the program even more. Phil Bennett left June Jones some solid players which he was able to win with. June Jones took us to 4 Bowl games and proved that you can win (albeit not win big) at SMU and you don't even have to go all out effort to do so. Now Chad Morris is restoring our talent base. No doubt some will be ungrateful to Morris and Jankovich when they leave.
