Re: Big XII Expansion
For SMU fans conference alignment is like having once had a really hot girlfriend who dumped you very publically a long time ago. Now she drops by every 4 years with her new boyfriend(s) (who are even bigger dweebs then you are) to make sure to remind you that you are still dumped, in case your constant misery is not reminder enough.

If only we had the same drive and passion for athletics that we had in securing a presidential library.
Back off Warchild seriously.

Closer to 28 yrs...not that that makes much of a difference.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

How anyone can come on this board and post 7,100+ times in 5 years and think we can't be competitive in the B12 is beyond me. (unless you are a ponydad-debbie downer poster)
UT & OU are heavyweights. SMU in the B12 wouldn't have to take a back seat to anyone else.

Re: Big XII Expansion
you might want to look at the fb scores against some of the b12 teams over the last few years. i.e. Bayor, TCU, TT etc. Sorry, but I don't think we're very competitive with them.
Even our coaches have requested that we not play top level teams for our OOC but rather schools like Liberty etc. so that we can pad our record.

I see it differently.
The 2 overriding factors in all this is Money & Greed. OU/Nebraska and UT/A&M, among other things, proves this point.
I don't see it stopping here. Over time, the P5 will want to dominate BB the same way it will dominate FB. It's called Greed. It will be an arms race between P5 schools that generate $50M per year vs non-P5 schools that generate $5M per year. Tell me again how we compete against that.

These 'expansion' threads always go so far off the rails.
How bout Chad & Co. start with winning 3 or 4 AAC games, and getting a few thousand more fans/students/alums to walk over to the stadium.

NSS...we're not competitive with them. That is hardly an insight.
Put us in the B12, give us B12 $, give us opponents that Dallas cares about and you don't think we can compete against Baylor, TCU, Tech, Ok State, Kansas, Iowa St, WVa or K-State....really??????????? You really believe that?
Don't take this personally redpony, I think you are a good poster, but If you don't think that SMU can compete against these Tier 2 / Tier 3 schools mostly located in dumpy locations, why the F are you on PFs?

Re: Big XII Expansion
I was referring to our past history over the last few years with b12 teams. Yes, at some point, with b12 money and some luck we could very likely be competitive. That is the future and sadly not the reality of today.
Re: Big XII Expansion
I've seen this song and dance for years. Every single time, except for when we got invited to the Big East before Pitt/Syracuse/West Virginia left, has been a depressing dosage of reality. SMU did not invest in sports at the right time, the fans did not make the commitment, and when we had something going June decided to totally check out mentally. It's not happening guys. You can't ignore sports for damn near 25 years and expect an invitation to the big kids table.
I agree though, if the City of Dallas wanted a bit more buzz and business having Texas, Tech, OU, Baylor, BYU (assuming they get an invite), etc. come to your city is a good idea - and they should support an SMU bid. But again, that ship has sailed. I just hope CM and Jank can make a valiant effort in the coming years, because that's probably it.

I'm not as critical of the fans. Nobody cares about San Jose St, Marshall or ECU.
Let's see. We have 15k fans now playing sub-par FB with crummy opponents. I say B12 membership would increase that floor to 25k fans. 2 games per year would have opponents that would fill a 40k seat Ford. So you are left with 4 games per year that you need to have a plan in place to add 15k fans per game, or 60k in total per year, to reach a 40k fan per game average.
Give us $30M per year with P5 membership and I bet we can solve this riddle fairly easily.

I don't think it requires any luck to be very competitive against Tier 2 and Tier 3 schools located in Lubbock, Waco, Forth Worth, Stillwater, Manhattan KS, or Morgantown.
Unfortunately I agree with the rest of what you say.
Re: Big XII Expansion
Here is my thing, I think the B12 will expand to fourteen and SMU probably has 1% shot. I hope that RGT and our AD recognize that our conference is about to get raided and they need to pull out all the stops to at least try to get us in.
If we do get in, I have no doubt that we could compete within the B12 given the more $$ we would get. Also, we would have a better chance of keeping CM and better recruit due to us being in a P5 conference.
I highly highly doubt we will get in though and once our conference gets raided we are pretty much screwed.
