Courtland Sutton omitted from CFN's top 25 wide receivers

Postby Donnell88 » Sat Aug 20, 2016 4:56 pm

College Football News did not include Courtland Sutton in its list of the top-25 wide receivers.
Three receivers from the AAC were named: (18) Keevan Lucas of Tulsa; (20) Isaiah Jones of East Carolina and (25) Rodney Adams of South Florida.
And (ouch) former SMU commit Gabe Marks of Washington State was selected as number eight.

It looks like a guy who wasn't good enough to play (much less start) for SMU is going to start for the Crimson Tide.

He played here as a true freshman, so I'm not sure of your comment about him not being good enough to play. He left because his recruiter left SMU and he didn't get along with Phillips.

He scored a TD in the first game that he played with SMU - vs. Baylor. Think it may have been the only TD scored by SMU that day.

Nope. Played sparsely in2014 and got a medical redshirt. Smu scored 21 points that day

He wasn't "good enough" to play for us because Phillips was an idiot.

After leaving The Hilltop, Dieter put up big numbers for Bowling Green and may end up with a National Championship Ring.

He put up big numbers after playing a true freshman at SMU, sitting out a year for transferring, then having 2 years in the BG system. HUGE different between a redshirt freshman and a 4th year junior. Your argument about not being good enough is irrelevant.
Apparently Courtland Sutton wasn't "good enough" either because he played so sparingly his true freshman year. Injury be damned, that was just an excuse for him to redshirt because he actually did need the year to learn and grow.

Good for Deiter that he has found success, but I wish he would have rode it out here.

In 2014, SMU lost their opener 45-0 at Baylor.

He was talking about dieter, not sutton. My mistake. And if my memory serves me correctly, dieter played early in the season and showed lots of potential but at some point got in the doghouse and vanished from the field.

Caught a 40 yard TD from Connor Preston for SMU's third TD of the day to pull the Ponies within 35 points after being down 42 points several times in the fourth quarter.
