Great to see that conference affiliation has not negatively impacted UCONN's recruiting. We need to maintain if not elevate our own recruiting and get the bottom of the conference to step up their efforts. I'm curious to see how Mike Dunleavy does in that aspect.

As we've heard, we won't be dominating on the 4/5 stars but we will be getting the guys we need to make sustained runs in conference and tourney. There is a difference.

I think Coach Dunleavy is in the process of turning over the Tulane roster. I believe he has a couple of transfers sitting out this year and a couple of decent freshmen that will be playing this year.mustangxc wrote:Great to see that conference affiliation has not negatively impacted UCONN's recruiting. I believe Hoopmanx said that we can get guys around that top 150 area we can still maintain a good level. Even though Coach Brown is not here Istill think the overall goal is not just to be competitive but to try to make a run at the national championship. I believe you can do that with kids in that top 150 range.smusic 00 wrote:As we've heard, we won't be dominating on the 4/5 stars but we will be getting the guys we need to make sustained runs in conference and tourney. The past national champions prove that theory to be very wrong.

You dont need to have top 10 guys - but you need some top 50's mixed in - or at least we certainly would in this conference.

Re: UConn lands top 40 player in 2017 class
We currently have three top 50-ish guys on the roster according to the Rivals rankings:
Semi - #31 in the class 2013
Whitt - #55 in the class 2015
Shake - #66 in the class of 2015
And I guess four because Harry would've been in the 50 range as a 4-star if they included Australians in their top 150 lists.

Re: UConn lands top 40 player in 2017 class
I think the goal would be to get enough 50-150 talent where, if you THEN added a one and done lottery pick, you'd have a shot at it. That pretty much sums up what LB was shooting for with EM.
One thing I really like is that most of our scholly guys out-perform their rankings. I'll take six Sterlings and Shakes over a Keith any day. The 50-150 plan can work. Just less margin for error.

Sterling and Ben were both 100-125 ranked guys outta HS and they have both outperformed their ranking IMO. If Jarrey had not suffered his knee injury he would've been a top 100 recruit. Gu was a top 100 guy and hopefully he is back to 100%.
We have a roster full of smart, versatile, very good basketball players. This will be a fun season.

I love UCONN loading up to keep the conference relevant, but I also love it because no matter who is on their roster, I can count on a 20 point beatdown at Moody

I saw this kid play multiple times last year. He drives to the basket without fear. Great pick up for UCONN.
