Slight variation of the theme:

Their dancing ban keeps a bunch of nerdy white baptists from showing off their jazz hands.

Ha. Thanks. How did a nerdy white Baptist preacher end up at SMU?

Combination of a lot of things...dad got invited by an SMU alum back in the 50s to attend a game... he brought me to several games in the early 60s and I was hooked. Saw LeVias make the punt return that sealed the SWC title run against Baylor...got the fever then, and it didn't stop.

During my rather limited sports career in high school, I had friends that would take me to old MYF days at the Cotton Bowl, and enjoyed end zone seats in that cavern. Got a set of scholarships that made SMU affordable. Walked on and limped off my freshman year of football. Went in per Lazenby for pre-med, ended up feeling called to ministry right about time that Organic Chemistry hit. Haven't missed medicine much, except around the time deacon's meetings drone on for about an hour.

Churches I have served here in Texas and Florida have sent a few kids to Baylor, most recently last year OL Michael Coffey from Navasota. He is a great kid, and SMU took a brief look at him, but he headed to Baylor largely because his mom is an alum, and he would need to "grow" into the position. He got a good bit of playing time in their opener, and is listed as 2nd team. He has been giving me the business this week, and I will be rooting for him, while rooting against Baylor.

I have a rather deep and entrenched enmity against Baylor, for a number of reasons...too many to list here, but if there is ONE game I would want SMU to win, this is it. And since you hit a fair definition of my now elderly (according to my kids) looks and demeanor, i thank you and salute you.

My pleasure I enjoy reading about how various posters ended up at SMU. Seems like a lot of the stories are interesting in their own right. So get to hear you got cause of LeVias. Have heard so many who got hooked through Doak Walker and I am their are a lot like you that got hooked due to LeVias.

And I am sure you are the exception that proves the rule regarding dancing abilities. Here's to a victory on Saturday. I'll have a dance with you if we win.

They're really big on forgiveness... Especially when it comes to athletes... No matter how heinous their acts have been they're willing to overlook them.

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
