The 2 Calls that Hurt

Postby Pony in SA » Sun Sep 11, 2016 11:19 am

It is NOT why we lost the game, not why posting this, but just watch the tape. Now watched it 5 times and the player number called for hands to the face on the 3rd and long never, ever touched anybody's face mask. In fact both Brando and Tillman say they didn't see it, and Tillman says at best hands near shoulder pads and curious call. And flag is late if you watch the tape. Maybe as some said in other post they got wrong number, or maybe we don't have all views, but really odd call and how it was made.

On the 1st down pass to Sutton his feet are clearly in bounds, actually 2 of them. Now if he was juggling it maybe that's what they saw. Again the announcers both say his feet are in he must not have had control and then they even talk about control all the way rule. Issue here is all scoring plays are to be reviewed and no indication it was. But given how big 12 crew blew OSU game, if they didn't review it like they should have no surprise.

Again, it is not at all why game was lost. But facts are there was no hands to the face by number called as tape doesn't lie and even game announcers mentioned it. Overall the refs do good job and I don't believe they are trying to get thing wrong but objectively I think they missed here (especially the hands to the face one).

I still don't understand in these games why the visiting team doesn't have its conference crews call the game, maybe its some contractual thing. By no means assures any better called games, but in other games I've seen the visiting team brings their crew.

Really surprised they didn't at least review the Sutton TD. On the replay of the hands to face, I think Green got his hands up around the neck. You can see the OL player tilt his neck back and make a choking gesture. But it was a little sketchy.

Ask Okie State how they feel about having the opposing team officials call the game.

The hands to the face penalty was an absolute killer. If that is not called Lawler gets a sack and we get the ball with great field position. One more play that really hurt us was the long pass to I believe it was Proche that hit him in the hands in stride and he dropped. If he catches that it is a touchdown. Proche has been great and we're all seeing what the coaches were raving about but that was a huge missed opportunity.

DVRing: Holy Cow that hands-to-the face call on SMU #98 was a BS call! Wiped out sack on 3rd down; BU goes on to score, take lead.

There are bad calls, both ways in every game. But that kept alive drive that got Baylor going. Ref who threw flag was at least 15 yards back

14 point swing when the game was (at least at the time) very much up for grabs.

I've watched the Sutton endzone catch over and over. It was a TD.

But hey let's all take seriously Mike Gundy's claim that P-5 teams shouldn't schedule G-5 teams unless the P-5 teams get to use their conference's referees. It's just good business that way.
