Just out from Mike Farrell on rivals about Philip Burley:

Three-star athlete Phillip Burley took two official visits already to two of his leaders Kansas and Missouri in December. The 6-foot-5, 205-pounder out of Scurry (Texas) Scurry-Rosser has two more official visits coming up in the next couple weeks to SMU and Arizona, what are his thoughts going into those visits?

"I just scheduled a visit for SMU on January 6th," he said. "I like SMU because I think I can go in there and play in the offense pretty early, plus it's a good school that I can get a degree from.

"As for Arizona I'm not sure if I'll actually take that visit because I haven't heard from the coaches in a while and they aren't showing that much interest."

What does the No. 51 athlete in the country hope to see in Dallas?

"Basically I just want to go and see how it is there," he said. "I also want to see how I get along with the coaches and be sure what position I'd be playing if I went there."

Currently Burley's top three is SMU, Kansas and Missouri.

"I like Kansas and Missouri a lot because of the coaches and the offenses they run," he said. "They really need some playmakers and I feel I really fit into their schemes."

This would be a huge committment for SMU!!!! Love to see this guy in an SMU uniform next year!!

there's definately a lot more to do in dallas, but you've obviously never been to Lawrance or Columbia. both are pretty fun college towns. Lawrance for sure, and in columbia harpos is a good time.

definately don't get the quality degree that you do from SMU, and the good thing for us is that he said that is important to him (whether it is really or not).

This should be a no-brainer. Sounds like the quality of education is important to him. Case closed.
He sees an offense in which he has a chance to play early. Case closed.
His family is near one of those schools. Case closed.

Talk about a huge boost to our receiving corps. This kid is a stud! 6'5 205lbs with a 4.5 forty. Looking at the videos this kid just looks like a man among boys.

Remember, his level of competition is minimal (I still remember going to the Signing Day gathering when Kenard signed -- watching him play RB at 300+ pounds was comincal, since many of their opponents had DLs who were barely 200 pounds). Nonetheless, this guy seems to at least have the physical gifts to be a stud. I'd very much like to see him in this year's class.

Okay, just watched the video.

I know that he wants to play offense. I realize that it might be his goal. And I am sure that the coaches will give him the opportunity, and an honest one at that.

But Phillip, with your frame, if you run a 4.5/4.6, you are going to make one hell of a linebacker. Nice, broad shoulders, you come in and pump up to 220, still run between a 4.5 and a 4.6, you are going to be an awesome strongside linebacker.

Anyone else see that?

That was my first thought though I don't like LBs at 6'5''. That large presents a pretty large target to block. Give me the 5'11 or 6' LBs anyday.

Thing is his frame is inticing...could we bulk him up to 230 or so and turn him into a pass rushing DE?

Or just leave him at WR to be the jump ball specialist...in any case I'll take him

I'll take him, too -- in a heartbeat.

Considering his genetics (look how big Kenard is), there's absolutely no doubt he could get to 230. I wouldn't be surprised if he could still run at 250 or 260. Maybe not 4.5, but probably still pretty fast.
