Being objective...that was probably a showcase of the 2 front runners for Big XII expansion, if they ultimately decide to expand and hold a championship game. Houston has shown they can play with the big boys and both Houston and Cincy are at least filling their stadiums with enthusiastic fans. Cincy makes a good rival and travel partner for West Virginia and gives the conference more eastern exposure. Biggest challenge if Big XII expands is how they would set up divisions.

That is probably their biggest dilemma. If they wanted to expand their geographic footprint and appease West Virginia their best bet was adding Cincinnati and Memphis or Colorado State. If they wanted to solidify their bread and butter then the most logical decision would be to add Houston and SMU. Adding Houston and Cincinnati really doesn't make sense because it splits the divisions in a way that angers most in the conference.
