Re: USF had only 4 wins in Taggert's 2nd yearJust think, in 2 years we might be on USF's level
Re: USF had only 4 wins in Taggert's 2nd yearWhat about UConn? 2-10 in 2014 with a new coach (even lost to the worst SMU team of all time). They magically went bowling by year two. Must have been the prior regime's recruiting prowess that has them beating UH and Cincy so soon. How much does Diaco make a year?
Re: USF had only 4 wins in Taggert's 2nd year
I am sure the USF fans may have wanted 5 or 6 wins in Taggert's second year but it did not happen. As sbsmith pointed out some of their fans had overestimated the team and how it would take recruits to develop. As far as QB depth is concerned he tried on Moore but Moore went somewhere else right before signing day thereby leaving HCCM with very few options so he went with Freeman whom everyone seemed to happy with getting. Next year we will have plenty quality QB depth #HammerDown
Re: USF had only 4 wins in Taggert's 2nd year
Laughable-it is amazing how ignorant SMU fans are about where this program was, how a bottomed out program is rebuilt and how long it takes to rebuild a program. He was given a 6 year contract for a reason. 6 wins and a bowl in 2017 is the goal not a mandate. You are simply WRONG. Ron Meyer recruiting some of the best talent in the Country Year 3: 4-6-1 Year 4: 5-6 He didn't have a winning record until Year 5-his job was never in jeopardy "With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris
When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: USF had only 4 wins in Taggert's 2nd year
Uconn isn't a good comp. Bob Diaco is 8-17 in his third year. Although the prior administration didn't do a great job, they recruited to the same level that Diaco has and left behind decent talent - on defense. The defense, built by Diaco, and a lot of luck allowed Uconn to go bowling last year. This year: they needed a lot of luck to beat Maine. Beat a bad UVA team. Then, did a great job against a Cinci team that just might get Tuberville fired (they look ready to quit on him). Diaco, who IMHO is doing a great job for Uconn, has a serious problem that Morris, Tulsa, UCF, and USF don't face. There is no offensive talent to be had anywhere near Uconn. Unless they get a B12 invite, it is going to be very hard for them to consistently get good skill position guys in. Going forward, their plan is to play/recruit defense - bruisers on the lines - play a conservative offense that will give them a chance to win close games. Personally, I think they should go to the option because most of the high schools in this area still play versions of the veer, wishbone, etc. Do unto others before they do unto you!!

How dare you bring a dose of reality to a good whine-fest? Once a Mustang, ALWAYS a Mustang!
Re: USF had only 4 wins in Taggert's 2nd yearI'll take 4 wins. Just get out of last place in the aac please
Re: USF had only 4 wins in Taggert's 2nd yearJust looking for year over year improvement until this thing gets turned around. Like Stallion said about Ron Meyer when he was hired to rebuild a powerhouse (and had the benefit of being able to compete with Texas and others on a level playing field), Meyer's teams went 3-8, 4-7, 4-6-1 & 5-6 in his 1st 4 years before SMU turned the corner with an 8-4 season before became the dominant program it was in the 80's. This team needs to be competitive and find a 3rd win somewhere this year to keep the positive momentum going.

Their rebuild is 2 years ahead of ours. They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security

Re: USF had only 4 wins in Taggert's 2nd year
Our schedule next season is very favorable. If you can't expect 6 wins with that schedule then what are we doing? UNT, SFA, Arkansas State, Tulane, Tulsa, all at home and 1 more win should not be too much to ask. Last edited by mustangxc on Sun Oct 09, 2016 6:46 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: USF had only 4 wins in Taggert's 2nd yearYeah so far our progress has been the achievement of an incremental schedule softening. I guess that's one way to do it. If the b12 expands, that's even more potential wins for us! Arkansas State is no gimme though.
Re: USF had only 4 wins in Taggert's 2nd year
Hey, give Morris credit for 3 guaranteed wins early next year. Only has to get 3 other wins against other AAC bottom feeders and the bowl game glory has arrived. Kind of ironic that June was lambasted for making it to bowl games following the exact same path. In this case you can be sure Stallion and gang will be handing him the Ponyfans coach of the year award. Smart guy. Definitely a man with a plan.
Re: USF had only 4 wins in Taggert's 2nd yearI guess footballdad and JasonB would have been complaining about Coach Taggert winning 4 games in his second year at USF.

Re: USF had only 4 wins in Taggert's 2nd year
Footballdad- is there a specific reason you have such disdain for Coach Morris and his staff? Tone of your posts here and in other threads seem really personal in that regard. Almost like you would relish in their failure. Trying to determine if you are just truly a passionate Mustangs fan ? ...or just a troll looking for reasons to throw daggers at Morris and the SMU program? Public forum and entitled to your opinions...... but at least honest about your intentions.
Re: USF had only 4 wins in Taggert's 2nd yearFbdad is a known troll, folks.
