3 recruiting classesModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: 3 recruiting classesALL Coaches are on the hot seat when they continue to loose. 3/4 wins this year. Bowl game next year. The one thing that really put the Team back this year was Matt getting hurt without a good backup. This problem is solved in 2017! Other things are youth and lack of depth after injuries. Depth will be better next year. I give him credit for keeping Red shirts on some guys. This will only make SMU stronger in 2/3 years! Remember Chad is a Football Coach not a miracle worker. Look at every game he has coached so far and compare the talent with opposing Team. The answer to the loses are in front of your eyes!
3 recruiting classesWith a couple of big time offers: Ole Miss and Miss State (never mind - they were just looks).
Re: 3 recruiting classesHe is a Wisconsin transfer.
Re: 3 recruiting classeshe suffered a knee injury in first game this year in JUCO and wasn't expected to play the rest of this season. Former 4 Star with multitude of BCS offers-once committed to Texas Tech before signing with Wisconsin
Chad learned his lesson-in a program going through a total rebuild-never let yourself be caught without great QB prospects. Over-recruit the position if you have to. Colbert will likely graduate-and I'm still doubtful about Davis getting a 6th year based upon a strict reading of the 6th year medical redshirt rule. He should have overrecruited last year at QB "With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris
When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: 3 recruiting classesMoore changing his mind hurt. Regardless with Peavey & Brewer the problem will be fixed next year. I still think Ben is going to be good as long as he plays within himself. Maybe not great but good.
Re: 3 recruiting classesconfirming that he suffered an ACL and had surgery after first game

Re: 3 recruiting classesI have a good feeling about this one.
Re: 3 recruiting classes
Colbert is just a Sophomore. Doubt he is graduating yet. All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: 3 recruiting classesWhile Morris (like any coach) is up for criticism about his play calling (the fake punt was horrible), it amazes me how many people don't understand how devoid of talent the roster he inherited was.
In the past 2 years, he has raised the level of talent across the board and managed to plug most of the major holes in the process. Nevertheless, it is important to understand that he had a limited amount of scholarships to work with and a number of areas that were complete disaster areas. There was simply no way to "fix" everything in 2 recruiting classes. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: 3 recruiting classesThis is the guy I really wanted us to get. I don't know what he's got between the ears, but I think his upside could be "program changing".
Re: 3 recruiting classes
One of the major problems with our QB play over the years has been our dependence on true or RS frosh to come in and play the position right away, whether due to injury or very poor play by the incumbent QB. Bo Levi, Kaiser, Preston, Cassel, Burcham, now Hicks. These guys were never ready to play D1 football at a high level, at least not that soon. We had success with older transfers like Gilbert and even with JJ McD. Yes we lost Moore last year to Memphis, but he wouldn't have been ready to play for us this year either. It is not often you can find a Shane Buchelle. So I am happy that Brewer won't come in and be expected to start right away (although I'm sure he'll be given every opportunity to earn the job through his play). I want to see Peavy and Gillins get after it, with Hicks and Brewer fighting for 3rd.
Re: 3 recruiting classes
When true/RS Freshman QB's succeed, it is almost always on a "good" team with a good OL, experienced WR's and/or a good running game. Hicks has a horrible (due to injuries) OL, young RBs, and a young WR corps with the dropsies. Hopefully, he will benefit from the adversary. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
